A re-install of the BuddyPress plugin as well as a rehacking of the custom theme seems to be doing the trick, time to turn this ticket off for now.
Update: Seems like the sitewide activity feed is showing the comments that Akismet is marking as spam. Which simplifies my issue, or so I think, how do I filter the spam comments out? Any ideas?
It’s a bug in WPMu 2.8.1, you can download the latest trunk of WPMu and that should go away.
Mariusooms,
Thank you, the activate link fixed the fatal error notice, but the ajax issues remain. Hmmm, wonder what it is colliding with.
@Andy and John James
Thanks for the clarification, i will post a bug report—and i have to say I am loving the Buddypressification of UMW Blogs. Adds a whole ‘nother dimension!
Hey Burt,
I am using bp 1.0.2 and I checked the timezone, and I am not sure that is the issue. What seems the issue is a number of the blogs in our WPMu account are a number of years old, and some haven;t been updated, it seems like a fail is coming in that regard. The fact is it only chokes on blogs that haven;t been updated for some time.
We are still looking into this, but in the interim we comment out the bp blogs activity code in the blogs directory loop and the blogs directory index.php and that solved the problem, at least cosmetically and functionally.
In case anyone is interested, D’Arcy Norman figured out the fix to the Multi-DB issue:

D’Arcy,
I think this is a Multi-DB issue. I just loaded BuddyPress as well, and I am getting the same nonsense. Damn it!
burtadsit,
You know, I may have, but you awesome folks make in so easy to introduce a new brand of trouble just about every semester. Here’s to you, BuddyPress looks awesome, and your support here is no small part of that. Thanks
Trent,
I just want to say thanks, this solved all my issues, and it is working beautifully now. You rock!
Hey all, Trent explains it beautifully here:
burtadsit,
I’m running on a shared host and I can report the same issue. Seems like the actual BuddyPress forums on the testbp.org site are appending a unique forum id, which is not happening for me, most probably because forum posts aren’t posting. A vicious cycle
