In reply to: bbPress BuddyPess One Database?
Unless you’re experiencing heavy traffic loads (think huge) that would require the use of another server for specific data storage, having all of them installed in 1 database is the standard installation procedure.
In reply to: No Group ForumsThe Forums link appears regardless of the forum physically existing or not. Once the BuddyPress forums plugin is turned on, it turns on all of the links also.
Regarding the steps you’ve taken, they’re all correct, so don’t second guess yourself there.
My guess is this is a PHP Memory error. Your host probably has you defaulted to 8MB, and you’re going to need much more than that allocated to run WPMU and XMLRPC.
In your .htaccess files (both WPMU and bbPress) put
php_value memory_limit 32MYou can also alternatively make a php.ini file, put that in your root directory, and inside it put
memory_limit = 32MIf it still doesn’t work, report back.
In reply to: Problems Installing BBPressWhich versions of bbPress are you both using?
In reply to: Add Friend Not workingIf you’re using Firefox, check and see if you have any Javascript errors on the page and report back.
In reply to: The page you were looking for was not found.Gladsteins, there won’t be a /members directory in your structure.
Within your /bp-themes/ directory are there themes in there? Namely bpmember? If your /bp-themes/ directory is empty, then nothing will show up in your settings screen.
Let me ask all of you a question. On your root blog, the main blog of your site, what do you all have your WordPress MU Permalinks set to? Admin->Settings->Permalinks
In reply to: Optionsbar fails in BP1.0 skeleton member themeIf no one else looks at this by tomorrow, I’ll check it out and see if I can figure out what’s wrong.
Can we take a step back and make sure that the included bpmember theme works the way that it should?
In reply to: Buddypress RC2 Logout BugWordPress and bbPress use several cookies to ensure your identity across all directories and areas that are important to the applications. When those cookies are out of alignment, things start working strangely like you describe.
The best thing is to check the cookies that your site is dropping, review the information inside them (typically with Firefox) and see if there are any places that are obviously incorrect or pointing to the wrong locations. Then, you use those global variables to adjust the settings back into place.
This is one of those bugs that’s difficult to diagnose, difficult to direct you to a fix, and hard to explain where to even start.
It’s also PIVOTAL that all of your separate applications (WPMU, BP, bbP) are all correctly installed/upgraded to begin with. If you’ve never gotten to a point where they were playing nice together in the first place, it will be extremely hard to figure out what’s wrong.
In reply to: Buddypress theme? The documentation/codex area provides a ton of documentation that can help you with all of these things, but there is no magic button you can press to make this happen.
There are dozens of functions and loops that need to be installed and addressed on several files and themes to make all of BuddyPress work the way it does. All we can do is document them for you, and let you give it a try yourself. It’s up to the growing audience of BP developers to start creating themes for 1.0, and that will eventually happen, I guarantee it.
If you’re in over your head and desperate for a theme asap, it may be time to hire someone to help you out. If you’re not looking for custom functionality and simply want a revamped BP theme, I might suggest joining the WordPress developers mailing lists and asking some WP professionals for assistance. Otherwise right now we’re pretty lenient about users asking for specific requests here (meaning we will lock the topic but we won’t delete it or spam it.)
It sounds to me like your bp-core-templatetags.php file isn’t in the right place, or isn’t the correct version. That’s where those functions you mentioned above reside, and they’re responsible for hiding the bars if you’re viewing the directory. Either that, or your $bp->is_directory variable isn’t getting set, both of which are indications of an incomplete upgrade process.
In reply to: register.php not working (but wp-signup.php does)We’ll be here.
The error logs are typically in chronological order, with the most recent at the bottom of the log.
If you can trigger the error and view the log right away, that might be the quickest way.
Saraswati11, are you saying that when viewing the member theme area, looking at the directory listings, the userbar and optionsbar are showing?
In reply to: The page you were looking for was not found. You installed BuddyPress in http://www.example.com/members ?
Dang! jjj beat me by 45 seconds!
Too slow Camopants!
There are a few multi-database WPMU plugins out there that help scale a website exactly like you’re talking about. I think the one that most people use is called HyperDB but I have no first hand experience with it. From what I understand, it’s also what wordpress.com uses to spread things around.
A few users here have some solid knowledge of this, and hopefully they’ll chime in to give you some more specific suggestions.
Problem is because your username has a space in it and is using capital letters. Where did you originally register your account and how?
If you click on Create a Group, you will see that it’s currently disabled, however groups are essentially harmless and are meant to be ways for users to get together on their own and discuss whatever they want to discuss.
In reply to: How to install bbPressThese forums are using bbPress, yes.
As far as the integration plugins that you will need, I’d recommend checking out the sticky topic and getting comfortable with everything before you start.
Trent and I are still working on the Forum Integration 2.0 documentation, so for now that sticky is your best bet.
In reply to: Unable to login to BBPress adminThis is a cookie integration issue with bbPress. You should be using bbPress 1.0 Alpha 6 for the easiest login integration.
Basically WordPress isn’t dropping the bbPress admin cookie. You need the integration plugin for WordPress to drop those cookies, if I remember correctly.
In reply to: register.php not working (but wp-signup.php does)This would be a server log file. It’s normally at the same level as your “www” folder or “html” folder, and usually titled “logs”
Basically if neither WPMU or BP are giving you an error, they don’t think there is one. That means your server/host isn’t sending the email properly, and an error log should tell you/us why.
In reply to: 404 errors – fresh install@Glenham, it sounds like you’re not using the bphome theme, and your current theme is missing the functions.php functions necessary to route those URLs to the members theme.
In reply to: WPMU Enable bbPress Cabpabilities pluginI’ll be doing a new integration tomorrow with WPMU 2.7.1, BP1.0, and bbPress 1.0a6, so I’ll be able to tell you right away.
My best guess is yes, because there still needs to be a mechanism to tell one part what the other part is thinking.
In reply to: bpContents 0.1X Core Code – Dev Sneak PeekChecking it out now!
In reply to: Can not post code to group forumSo if you write
<?php whatever ?>it strips it out?
Let me check this…
In reply to: multiply buddypress installsWhen you say a new BuddyPress install, do you mean a complete fresh new install of BuddyPress, allowing a separate database and user tables for each sub domain? If so, that’s a little outside the scope of what this forum provides.
You might want to try talking to some server admins and see about maybe having a VPS setup, or some kind of reseller account?
In reply to: Images in wireA new filter, like adding a new action to the activity feed? Or a new filter, like adjusting the way that the feed filters information?
Either way, you could start at bp-activity/bp-activity-filters.php and see if that gets you what you’re looking for?
