It’s as if BuddyPress is not installed and WPMU is finding no blog at the URL so redirecting the user to signup. However, BuddyPress is installed and partially working (the options show up in the Site Admin menu).
I must be doing something wrong here. Clicking on the links to News, Members, Groups or Blogs, all result in a redirect to wp-signup.php as shown above.
Actually, it’s redirecting like this:
/testbp/wp-signup.php?new=testbpmembersadminsettingsgeneral
for example, when I click on
/testbp/members/admin/settings/general
I should add that I’m running everything off the latest trunks.
Excellent. Just saw the problem and resolved it with this five minutes later. Much appreciated.
I now see where you’re coming from. The BuddyPress Forum settings state:
“To enable forums for each group in a BuddyPress installation, you must first download, install, and setup bbPress and integrate it with WordPress MU.
Once you have bbPress set up correctly, enter the options below so that BuddyPress can connect.”
Well, I’ve turned the integration off but can still post. I need to look at this some more.
That’s very reassuring that you’re using dsaders privacy plugin, too. Nice to see such a simple solution already exists to provide private BuddyPress communities while not affecting the privacy of individual’s blogs. In education, I can see this being very attractive. Hopefully Andy is aware of this for future core feature development.
I’ve not tested it extensively yet, but this plugin:
http://wpmudev.org/project/More-Privacy-Options
seems to allow the blocking of all users, except the registered community, from viewing anything related to buddypress.
If I set “I would like my blog to be visible only to registered users from blog community” for the main/first blog where all the buddypress features sit, then you have to login before being able to see anything except for blogs, which have their own privacy options.
Is it really this simple to create a private social networking community but allow the blog privacy to remain under the control of the blog owner? I hope so. Perhaps someone can test and verify this?
Thanks.
BuddyPress does have forums (you’re using them on your site
. It’s one of the standard set of plugins, called bp-forums. Accessible when you create a Group. I’d like to create a ‘Support’ Group where people are directed to for user-to-user support. I could use bbPress, but it seems like it’s adding yet another application to manage. If the BP group forums are intended to scale well, it seems easier for my needs to run the BP group forums rather than bbPress.
I like it. Aggregating this information makes an immediate statement about the site and its users. As it is, it’s easy on the eye and the page isn’t overloaded.
