@mcpeanut
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone or a organization would fund the overhead so we could really just test and see how scalable a WP/BP site would be when you have tens of millions of people flocking to the site at one time? That would probably never happen but then again you never know. That it my opinion would be the only way to test WP/BP…[Read more] -

@mcpeanut
I was simply referring to the “change the world” statement. I love BuddyPress/WordPress and have developed plugins for it and I never said it was an unusable platform. You are right about BP and niche markets that is one of the awesome uses for BP but niche doesn’t take on the bold task of changing the world. I simply believe you should…[Read more] -

@mcpeanut @shanebp I really apologize for that. Did not mean to be harsh or demanding.
At present none of the wordpress or buddypress event plugins has the implementations that any social networking site or social networking scripts has. Event Manager is a good plugin – with respect to front end BuddyPress Simple Events seem to offer no added…[Read more] -

Hey @bphelp @rosyteddy @peter-hamilton @danbp and @mcpeanut
In version 1.0.2, I’ve addressed the problem of the mystery-man displaying for existing users when the plugin is first activated. There’s now no need to wait until their next login to get their identicon. Identicons are available for display for everyone when needed.

@mcpeanut @vitamincee
Just out of curiosity what role editors are you referring to so the OP can explore that route and can these role editors allow you to assign moderators that wouldn’t have full admin rights? For instance could you as an admin assign a moderator that could edit the activity stream and forum topics without them being able to…[Read more] -

While I appreciate your concern on the OP’s topic you should also be aware that most social network admins including the big ones you may be using have access to PM’s as well as IP’s and Internet Service Providers. If your that paranoid about who has access to your data then I suppose the best policy would be not to volunteer it by…[Read more] -

hi @mcpeanut,
Thank you.
I actually made a mistake by including the lighbox hurriedly. I am updating to have an option to disable it.I have tested it on a few themes and it seems to have conflicts on couple of themes bacuse of my use of theme specific activity instead of supplying with the plugin.
I am looking on to improve it and I saw your…[Read more]

@mcpeanut the changes mentioned weren’t that extreme you should be able to adjust the code based on what was suggested by shanebp and myself. bp_parse_args() is well documented in the codex and is relatively trivial to implement, the update function simply changing the hook it runs on to the WP login hook so it only fires once per user…[Read more]

Hey @mcpeanut!
Considering you’ve tested unsuccessfully on an unmodified Twenty Twelve – Thirteen – Fourteen, it might be worth making the core dev team aware of the problem by opening a Trac ticket:

Hey @mcpeanut
Hopefully your new server is working well for you! Just thought I’d give an update on how mine is going.
I went for the managed option to try to save a little time but that was a mistake. I should have opted for the root server because 1and1 refuse to make any changes to the config of the managed servers. I should have guessed that…[Read more]

Hey @mcpeanut
The same code as either a plugin or as part of core should weigh the exact same on a site. Plugins only slow down or bloat a site if they are written badly. In theory you could have 100 plugins running with not much noticeabe impact on performance. Then you could have one bad plugin that grinds your site to a halt.

OC2PS replied to the topic 2.0 top features – ideas in the forum Ideas 10 years, 7 months ago
@henrywright i agree with you on that definitely, but adding some functionality that some plugins offer as built into buddypress would also help because your adding less weight from these plugins too no?
@mcpeanut I am probably the person that asks most often for stuff to be included in the core. However I beg to differ with you on this as a…[Read more]

@mcpeanut I just got around to buying the dedicated AMD. One thing to watch out for, the price quoted on their splash page is for a 24 mo contract. I found myself paying an extra £10 a month for a rolling monthly contract. Their SSL cert costs extra too. I’ll report back on performance one I have it set up and running

@mcpeanut have you used 1&1’s dedicated server yet? I have actually been thinking of upgrading recently. The VPS is good but I think I need to ‘up my game a little’ and go for some more power. Was wondering if you’d recommend their dedicated option?
