Keep only BP and bbPress activated and deactivate BP Profile Search plugin then change to bp-default them and check if you can move and save widgets.

@bigbearink have you tried changing to bp-default theme to make sure it’s not a theme issue?

If you use bp-default theme, you’d find the login box in the sidebar on the front page and everywhere. You can copy the code from the sidebar and paste in on the home page of your site and add some styling.
