Doubt it will return, can’t remember exact reason but it was removed in the past.
Just a guess, “conversion”. The more stuff on a registration page, the less likely the visitor will follow through. The trend is to use some other main social network to sign on/activate, or the very least bit of information to register; such as, username and password.
Profile photo is pretty standard on everything though – from social networking sites to other kinds of sites…
It didn’t fit logically in the initial registration process, it left you hanging without clear indication anything had happened, it was best removed from that stage of things.
@sooskriszta if you have already created a ticket on the subject don’t call out individual core devs on the forum it’s pointless, they will see the ticket and respond there if justified, doesn’t really help to further raise issue here treally.
Neither Facebook or twitter require avatar on sign up. For conversion it’s better to have the most minimal barrier at sign up.
@modemlooper I didn’t say this should be required. I said this should be available,. Both Facebook and Twitter have this available.
If i recall well, one reason I recall for removing avatar upload at registration is that bad guys can upload virus via .jpg files, which is a real possibility. When you click on those .jpg files, you see no image. Right click to open and you’ll see the code/virus.
So lets now leave this to a discussion on Trac? Really not sure why you are trying to achieve by running this forum thread and the detailed trac tickets noted above, it’s not going to necessarily tip things in favour of your opinion.
Trac can have a relatively narrow discussion. Forums have a larger audience and greater participation.
Besides I can;t log into trac for some reason.
