John James Jacoby @johnjamesjacoby ?
active 9 hours, 5 minutes agoBuddyPress lead developer, bbPress plugin lead developer, and general overall freelance WordPress ninja. Generally available for hire for large WordPress, BuddyPress, and bbPress related projects. You can find me evangelizing BuddyPress at WordCamps wordwide, #buddypress-dev or #bbpress on freenode on IRC, or up to my neck in trac tickets, pet projects, and general WordPress, BuddyPress, and bbPress related development stuff. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

John James Jacoby posted on the forum topic the_post_thumbnail & the activity stream in the group How-To and Troubleshooting:
Good idea. It would probably need to write the thumbnail to the activity stream directly (same as it does now) but would include a thumbnail if there is one.

Done. Slug needs to be changed eventually too, since it’s generated from the group name.

@johnjamesjacoby – What are you thoughts on changing: bp_blogs_record_activity( ) to make use of the featured image if one has been set for the post, rather than trawling the content and thumbnailing images?

@hitler – they are coming – I guess partly as a result of end users tearing their hair out – group forums has some interesting technical / logical reasoning behind it, but the user interface experience was far from perfect. Check out @johnjamesjacoby post on the imminent new approach: http://buddypress.org/2010/08/buddypress-and-bbpress-the-future/ Note: now the presentation / interface features [...]

@rogercoathup Happy to talk privately about why I opted to block the person in question from buddypress.org. Don’t want to air the dirty laundry but rest assured it takes quite a bit to get to that point. @paulhastings0 Very little ‘risk’ but you’re on the right track. IMO one of the harder things about running such a [...]

@metakappa The activity component needs to be matched up with the Activity Streams standard asap, and we’ll hopefully be able to do that in 1.3. @intimez If you block search engines, your site is set to private, and blog posts and comments won’t appear in the stream. Make sure the option to make your blog public is [...]

Don’t thank me, thank @r-a-y!

Conversion will be handled gracefully. There will be a few options presented to either keep your existing setup if it works for you, or convert to a newer version of bbPress if you’d like.
Of course, this is all still in the planning phase so there’s no example yet.
