From what I can see, https://buddypress.org/blog/ is posted from the main site and not in a subdirectory blog like you think it is. There is a hack to core BP files which can be turned into a plugin (hint, hint) which works in BP 1.2.3 and WPMU 2.9.2 …

Hi Gibby, change your theme back to bp-default theme, could very well be that your customization is not working out. It would help if you let us know whether you’re on WP or MU, and version of WP/MU and BP plus other info.

You could create a child theme, copy the header.php file from parent theme and add the meta directly, save to child theme folder.
