    I’m working on modifying this right now. The code you put in here is mangled though (wrap it in backticks). I can’t see what differs from this and the original widget?

    For anyone wondering what uses plugins.php files, the accounts settings page is one of those, which uses the members/single/plugins.php file.

    Thanks DJPaul.

    That explains it perfectly. No wonder my search missed it, I was looking for mention of plugins.php!

    OK, I’ll do what I can then :)

    There’s a few more pressing features I have to work on, but it would be great to give the EM an spring clean.

    I’m contributing to a plugin called events-manager (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/events-manager/), but I’m not sure it works on BuddyPress or MU for that matter.

    I’m working on a BP project at the moment that could use an events plugin, so I hope to have some time to upgrade it and adapt it to work on MU/BP in the near future. This would not be for a few weeks though…

    Anybody?

    I did a search in the BuddyPress folder, and I can’t see any mention of a plugins.php file except for within bbpress, which I think refers to the plugins.php file within that.

    Can any of the devs of the new theme explain exactly what purpose these plugins.php files serve? From I can see, there’s no purpose….

    I got this for a fresh install of WP 2.9.1.1 + BP 1.2 and also for an upgraded 2.9.1.1 + BP 1.2

    I think this must be a bug, because the SQL statement is missing two non-null fields, and the SQL in the buddypress plugin that creates the MYSQL tables shows it is not-null either.

    Do you not have this problem r-a-y?

    You shouldn’t have to edit the core files at all. I had to whip up something similar today for a client which you may find helpful.

    What it does is replace the email that is used to access the gravatar with a different one. I recommend you replace the default email template with your domain, so, the gravatar will remain persistant if it’s an identicon or wavatar:

    class DisableUserGravatar {

    var $email_template = "member.%USER%@yourwebsite.com";

    function DisableUserGravatar(){
    add_filter('get_avatar', array(&$this, 'wp_avatar'), 1, 5);
    add_filter( 'bp_core_fetch_avatar', array(&$this, 'bp_avatar'), 1, 3);
    }

    function wp_avatar( $content, $id_or_email){
    if( preg_match( "/gravatar.com/", $content ) ){
    if ( is_numeric($id_or_email) ) {
    $id = (int) $id_or_email;
    $user = get_userdata($id);
    } elseif ( is_object($id_or_email) ) {
    if ( !empty($id_or_email->user_id) ) {
    $id = (int) $id_or_email->user_id;
    $user = get_userdata($id);
    } elseif ( !empty($id_or_email->comment_author_email) ) {
    return $content; //Commenters not logged in don't need filtering
    }
    } else {
    $user = get_user_by_email($id_or_email);
    }
    if(!$user) return $content;
    $username = $user->user_login;
    $email = md5( str_replace('%USER%', $username, $this->email_template) );
    return preg_replace("/gravatar.com\/avatar\/(.+)\?/", "gravatar.com/avatar/{$email}?", $content);
    }
    return $content;
    }

    function bp_avatar( $content, $params ){
    if( is_array($params) && $params['object'] == 'user' ){
    return $this->wp_avatar($content, $params['item_id']);
    }
    return $content;
    }

    }

    global $DisableUserGravatar;
    $DisableUserGravatar = new DisableUserGravatar();

    Create a file in wp-content/mu-plugins with the content above.

    I’ll put this up on wordpress.org as a plugin.

    Look forward to it! I think it will add a tremendous amount of depth to bp.

    The dillema I have now is whether to use the recommended plugin or wait for Andy’s implementation :|

    Thanks for pointing that out, sorry for the late reply.

    I’ll give that a go.

    Is anybody working on this?

    The ability to have threaded wires is quite important (and urgent) for me so if nobody is making a plugin for this, and since it’s not on the roadmap I will certainly have to.

    Any suggestions are welcome!

    In case someone is interested, you can then use the following function for any of these types of functions to make a select ddm which takes you to the right url when selected:

    function mrn_header_tabs($type){
    $tabs = call_user_func("bp_get_{$type}_header_tabs");
    ?>
    <select onchange="window.location = this.value;">
    <?php foreach($tabs as $tab) : ?>
    <option <?php if ( $tab['is_current'] ) : ?> selected="selected"<?php endif; ?> value="<?php echo $tab['link'] ?>/"><?php echo $tab['text'] ?></option>
    <?php endforeach; ?>
    </select>
    <?php
    }

    Thanks for the tip r-a-y, will try that plugin out!

    I’ll wait for Andy to get back to us on this. If there’s no real good reason, I might try putting it all together and making the appropriate modifications to the template. I don’t think it would be very hard either.

    Oops… trunk of course! it’s been a long day… got it working the old fashioned way :)

    The other point I was making though is that this is linked off the main installation instructions:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/.

    The reason I probably didn’t even look at the URL is because of that. I’m sure lots of people will do the same, and if they are new to buddypress they won’t be aware of the usual way of installing it and either post questions here or maybe even give up!

    Glad to help. Shame it’s so hackish, but at least it works!

    I ran into this problem too.

    I have a temporary fix which will enable you to reenable your components, via the database :

    The record is in table wp_sitemeta and you want the record with meta_key = bp-deactivated-components

    If you make the meta_value field blank all your components will be enabled again. You can edit the value as well just to disable one component, but for simplicity’s sake do that and disable the ones you want again from the admin area.

    Now onto the bigger problem I’m having, integrating the forum with Andy’s new instructions?

    Strange thing… this happened to me as well. I deactivated all the plugins (including those in the mu-plugins folder), tried reactivating and it started with no problems. From that point I could reactivate all my plugins and it worked.

    However, I think I fixed it because I got a similar problem when trying to add media to a post from the media library.

    The issue lies in the require statements, in the case of the media library it was within the bp-themes. If you change the require statements to require_once in the bp-themes folder it starts working.

    Mods, I am working quite heavily with BuddyPress atm, if there’s any way I can contribute to the core code please let me know.
