bump
Okay, the problem is back.
When I activated WP Super Cache it showed up again.
On Dashboard, “Incoming Links” and “Plugins” both show this error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 491520 bytes) in /home/cgoegan/public_html/livingcm.org/wp-includes/SimplePie/Misc.php on line 843
I tested the cache in WP Super Cache and it said
The pages do not match! Timestamps differ or were not found!
Things you can do:
-
Load your homepage in a logged out browser, check the timestamp at the end of the html source. Load the page again and compare the timestamp. Caching is working if the timestamps match.
-
Enable logging on the Debug page here. That should help you track down the problem.
-
You should check Page 1 and Page 2 above for errors. Your local server configuration may not allow your website to access itself.
So I tried that and they are different. One is:
http://livingcm.org/wp-login.php?redirect_to=/
and the other is:
The reason is because I have a private site and unregistered users are directed to a different page than the home page.
Any idea how to fix this without removing the privacy that I need for the site. Does this occur with everyone who has a different registration page and home page?
I’m using Wanguard and that seems to be working better now after a few days. It worked perfectly, then I had a smattering of sploggers, then it’s been quiet again. Hopefully it stays that way. If it remains a problem, I will look into your recommendation Slava. Tks.
The memory issue wasn’t Private Buddypress after all. I deactivated all my plugins, deleted bbpress/buddypress and reinstalled them, then reinstalled one plugin after the other in the right sequence – buddypress first, then buddypress upgrade plugins after – the problem is gone.
I did talk to my host though and they said I need VPS, which I’m not convinced of yet. We’ll see.
In the meantime – is there no WYSIWYG editor for bbPress?
Thank you, yes I am on a cheap host so it’s possibly the cause, although I had it all set up before without the problem.
Are there any alternative options to private buddypress. The entire site becomes useless if it can not be private. I’m coming from a private ning education site and it just wouldn’t fit our community’s needs so I feel I have no choice but to use this outdated plugin.
Here’s another issue I’m having in my WP Super Cache settings:
Notice: PHP caching enabled but Supercache mod_rewrite rules detected. Cached files will be served using those rules. If your site is working ok please ignore this message or you can edit the .htaccess file in the root of your install and remove the SuperCache rules.
Please help!
I tried this:
If possible, increase the memory limit in the wp-config.php file by adding `define (‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’64M’);`.
but it didn’t work 🙁 I’m not sure where to add the recommended lines in the other files – they are full of unintelligible code to me and I’m concerned about messing with it without knowing where exactly I should put it.
I’m having this same issue. Is there any way to solve this without going into myphpadmin? This has a solution:
http://wpmu.org/daily-tip-fix-for-buddypress-group-forums-error-when-creating-a-new-topic/
but I don’t know how to do it. Is there any front end way of fixing it? I tried the clicking unclicking thing but it didn’t work.
I realized that even though they are showing up as members in my user panel, they aren’t showing as members on the site – because I never approved them. So I think my friend who is not showing up as a member probably never came back and logged in so she’s in limbo – showing up as a member who registered, but until she comes back and tries to login, Private Buddypress doesn’t send the email to me to do the final approval that makes her a member on the site itself.
Thank you, I’ll try that. Another question: I have a member who shows up in the user list when I go to my Dashboard > Users. But when I go to the member section of the site they are not there. I tried re-setting her role and then setting it back in the User area but that didn’t do it. Not sure what to do. Maybe delete and have her re-register? Concerned it will happen again without my knowledge when I open for many memberships.
Another issue I’m having is that I installed Private Buddypress, which I know you said I shouldn’t since it isn’t compatible, but I can’t use BuddyPress if it isn’t private so I need the privacy. But every morning I check and there are several new members who somehow managed to register themselves as members when I have it set to need my approval. How can I avoid this? I just delete them, but when I have a lot of members, I won’t be able to manage that and pick them out so easily.
`I have another issue with bbPress. Do I ask that here?
`When I add a new topic in the main forum, it redirects to a page that says: “`We’re sorry, but we can’t find the page that you’re looking for. Perhaps searching will help.”`
When I change my permalinks to default, it fixes the problem. How can I fix this so I can use the %postname% permalink not the numbered pages?
Is there a way to know which plugins are trustworthy other than the reviews?
I’m having this issue also.
Yes, the registration link issue was a plugin problem. Cleared up when I deactivated them. What are my options then? I really do want some of that functionality offered by the plugins.
I also have a strange problem now with the registration link on the sidebar only showing up on some pages and not on others. Thought it might be a custom menu problem, but it doesn’t seem to be the issue.
Does that mean the plugin is unusable if it fixes problems when I deactivate it? Or does it mean I should re activate it in a different way/order?
Okay, it wasn’t a hack. It was a mobile plugin.
I’ll stop talking to myself now :s
Great. Someone hacked into the site and removed the Dashboard toolbar at the top of the site. I’m thinking ning may not be such a bad option after all.
You’re right! I tried it again and it didn’t show up! Not even for me! What’s strange is I had it set to private, then checked it again and it was listed as public, so I switched it back again :/
So, aside from making the activity feed the main page issue – everything else seems to be resolved at this point.
I am getting another error: when I post a comment on a forum discussion, I get this error message:
Page not found
We’re sorry, but we can’t find the page that you’re looking for. Perhaps searching will help. When I re-load the forum discussion, it resolves it. Any idea how to fix it?
Okay, I activated the Private BuddyPress plugin and this now works for me. It didn’t work when I used the Activity page as my static home page, so that is still my issue.
Hugo, thank you for pointing that out. I was not aware of your forum protocol, I apologize. I should have used italics? I want to stress my point, but not shout 🙂
I have seen many posts here that have gone unanswered regarding the very same issues I’m having so I got the impression that patience wasn’t leading to any answers. I don’t mind being patient, I just really would like answers one way or another – it can be fixed or it can’t. With that information, then I can make a decision on whether I can use Buddypress/bbPress combo or not and move ahead.
Here is what I still need help with:
1. How to make the Activity page the static Home page and not get the 404 error when posting. Paul said this is fixed in the next release of Buddypress. Does anyone know when that release is and is there a workaround in the meantime that someone can walk me through?
2. Buddypress offers options to make a group ”Private” or “Hidden”
Both options claim: “Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.”
This is not true – everything I post in the “Hidden” group I created shows up in the public activity feed to a test user I created who is not a member of that group. I need to be able to offer the secure knowledge of privacy in these groups to our users. Is there a way to truly make this information private and not be mortified when one of my users finds their private information on a google search?
Paul’s answer is unclear to me: “I am not aware of any bugs with your second issue; if the current user is a member of that private group, they have access to see its activity items on any page on your site.”
3. I would like to make the whole site private – accessible only after registration. I would like people to have to register and their registration be approved by me before gaining access to the site. Is this possible?
Thank you for any help.
I figured out that the problem is with having the activity page as the static home page.
I changed the home page to a blog page and then added the activity page on the navigation menu and now I’m able to post comments.
So it looks like you can’t have the Activity page as the home page on Buddypress until the update. Is that right?
I did that already chouf – I chose the Activity page as my static home page.
The problem, again, is when anyone tries to comment on the Activity (static home) page – it looks for the reply page at /activity/reply – but the page does not exist.
Why doesn’t the page exist? It should come standard in bp shouldn’t it? Where did it go?
What is on the reply page? Shouldn’t it just go back to the activity (static home) page with the new comment added?
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!
I’m feeling more and more discouraged about the possibilities of this working for me. How can ANYONE use buddypress without people being able to comment on the activity feed?!?!??!!!!!?????
Is there anyone who would be willing to walk me through a temporary workaround on the activity feed until the release comes out. I really want to use bp and if I can get it working, it would be ideal for what our group needs.
Paul,
So does that mean I can’t have the Activity feed as my home page until the new release? Is there an ETA?
I setup a test user who *isn’t* a part of the private group (LivingCM nature group) and I was still able to see the comment that was privately posted in the private group on the MAIN Activity feed. Isn’t this a known issue?
Thanks for your response Chouf1
I set my homepage as a static page and used the Activity page as the homepage. I think that’s why it’s not working. It’s looking for /activity/reply, but it’s named ‘home’. Where do I change the url for the reply page? It doesn’t show up in Dashboard – Pages because it’s a BuddyPress theme page.
Ideally, I’d like a registration where I am sent an email, and then I approve them. This would keep the community private, rather than anyone and everyone self-registering.
The permalinks I chose are the postname option. That’s pretty standard on websites isn’t it?
