    It was a template issue after all. Copying an earlier version of an entire template folder solved the problem, but I wasn’t able to pinpoint the cause. The comment tags looked normal and I hadn’t touched them.

    Which doesn’t solve the fundamental problems with IntenseDebate though. Next I’ll try to install it on the main blog only and hopefully the member blogs stay unaffected.

    Is there a way to offer plugins to member blogs selectively? Or is the only option all plugins on or off?

    Thanks again Jeff.

    All these comments have to do with ID not functioning correctly after installation. My problem is that comments are gone from member blogs after removing ID completely.

    ID clashes with WPMU and/or BP. I remembered that Mohit Kumar had posted a question about it here. I’ve posted a question about this on the WPMU forum as well.

    I’ve searched on Google and the Intense Debate site, but what I’ve found so far is no encouraging. I’m now reinstalling my site…

    Avoid Intense Debate!

    EDIT1: Re-uploading the php files from before ID had no effect – as I kinda expected. So the problem must be in the database somewhere.

    Now deleting the database, importing an earlier version…

    EDIT2: Even reverting the database to the earlier version did not solve the problem. WTF??!! :-(

    John James Jacoby, I’ve tried that, but IntenseDebate is a lot of code and I’m not that smart. Can’t find that on/off button.

    I’ve deleted all database tables from one of the member blogs (wp_2_ etc.) and imported a version from before I’d installed IntenseDebate. It had no effect.

    So whatever changes ID makes in the database, it is not in the blog tables. Perhaps in wp_bp_user_blogs_comments then? Or wp_sitemeta?

    Can’t find any likely candidates by going through the wpdb mentions in the main IntenseDebate plugin file.

    wp_1_options has several entries that look ID-related, like id_useIDComments, even after removing the plugin from the system. Is _transient_feed part of ID too?

    Deleting these entries has no effect whatsoever…

    Can a plugin make changes in php files?

    Thanks again Jeff Sayre!

    My main concern is now how to repair my installation. The comment system is totally gone from member blogs. I don’t see anything unusual in the database or template files.

    What is going on and how can I fix it? :-(

    After completely removing IntenseDebate from the system, the default comment system is back on the main blog, but still completely gone from member blogs, even blogs created after removal of the plugin.

    Is there any way to reset the member blogs without having to reinstall the entire site? How can a plugin kill an entire component like that? Where does the plugin “turn off” the default comment system? Is there a way to force comments_template() to load?

    Installing Disqus did not fix the problem. Deactivated and deleted again.

    Is there a setting in the database that turns off comments?

    I activated it sitewide, but it totally removes the comment system on members blogs until members put in their information in the plugin. That is too complicated/confusing.

    So I deactivated sitewide and reactivated for the main blog only, but the comment system on the members blogs is still gone.

    Even deactivating and deleting the plugin entirely does not bring back the comment system on the members blogs -> IntenseDebate screws up your system!

    Another great Auttomatic product! ;-)

    I’d like to know this as well. I get spam blog that apparently go around my custom signup process – name not capitalized etc.

    Can you “safely” delete certain WP or WPMU registration files? Which ones are obsolete when you use BP? Would that fix part of the problem?

    WP_CONTENT_URL worked for what I needed. Thanks!

    Finally put it online. Will remain a work in progress:

    Thanks Andy Peatling. It still doesn’t work.

    Is WP_CONTENT_DIR a URL or a server path? I need a URL. It’s an annoying SimplePie bug.

    Not sure if this would solve your issue:

    Autogenerate or remove username

    Plugin update first_name, last_name in wp_usermeta on activation

    Simplified blog creation – blogname generated from Blog Title

    Clean professional user registration?

    Solutions are at the bottom. Or follow the links in the posts. I’ve also posted the final code here. It was a long and messy process…

    Yes, I already use wp-hide-dashboard. It’s a partial solution.

    Users still get the pushy wp-login every now and then, which is a problem because it also has a link to an ancient register/signup form that clashes with Buddypress.

    wp-admin/profile.php also is not whacked by wp-hide-dashboard.

    DJPaul had already given me similar code – very much appreciated!

    The problem with redirects is that they ignore ?action=lostpassword etc., so you’d have to code around that. It becomes a huge mess – at least for me, since I have only a vague idea what I’m doing. Redirect is a dead end.

    Or will bp_core_load_template take care of those actions?

    I’ve now simply put my header/footer etc. in wp-login.php, without renaming. That file looks like an ancient relic. Automattic should restructure login/signup etc., split forms from php and bring it into the template structure.

    I’ve already spent way too much time on this. Quik and dirty solution will have to do for now. Need to get back to my day job…

    Search boxes are excluded with .nofocus. I’d like the set-focus script to work on the signup form, contact form and event forms (plugins).

    When not logged in the page loads fine, the focus just does not get set. Logging out doesn’t break jQuery. There are no problems with other jQuery dependant scripts.

    As far as I can tell all the necessary scripts are loaded. I guess the set-focus script conflicts with something that’s only active when not logged in. What could that be?

    This is going nowhere. I’ll just hack core file; replace wp-login.php and wp-admin/profile.php with copies on login.php and account/profile.php (?) and then search/replace all links.

    I f***ing hate WordPress registration/member management!

    I’ve copied all code from wp-login.php to a custom wp page in my template called memberlogin.php at mywebsite.com/login. I had to make this edit to make the login form show up at that address:

    require( '././wp-load.php' );

    Unfortunately, the form is broken, so there must be other addresses in the file that require editing…

    EDIT 1: There’s an obvious culprit:

    <form name="lostpasswordform" id="lostpasswordform" action="<?php echo site_url('wp-login.php?action=lostpassword', 'login_post') ?>" method="post">

    Replaced all instances of ‘wp-login.php’ with ‘login’. Will all the code work without the php?

    Yes! Logging in via this form works.

    Unfortunately logging out does NOT work… :-(

    When I try /login?action=logout directly in the browser address bar I get this:

    You are attempting to log out of Your Site

    Do you really want to log out?

    After confirming the message bar says ‘failure noticed’ and I’m redirected to the homepage, still logged-in.

    Apparently those ?actions don’t get taken along with the redirect. The redirect is just a blunt redirect to the /login and there it ends. :-(

    Following DJPaul’s example, this works great as a starting piont:

    function useraccount_redirect() {
    if ( !is_site_admin() && strpos( strtolower( $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] ), '/wp-admin/profile.php' ) !== false ) {
    bp_core_redirect( site_url() );
    }
    if ( !is_site_admin() && strpos( strtolower( $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] ), '/wp-login.php' ) !== false ) {
    bp_core_redirect( site_url() );
    }
    }
    add_action( 'plugins_loaded', 'useraccount_redirect', 11 );

    Instead of site_url it should redirect to customized copies of wp-login.php and profile.php, so first I need to figure out the syntax for that – I’ll do some searches… – and then I need to decide how and where to create those custom pages.

    Is there a way to include a custom page in a plugin folder. I can create a regular wp page in my template, but it would be nicer is it came with the plugin.

    I found this example for creating an admin page in a plugin:

    function bot_menu() {
    global $wpdb;
    include 'bot-admin.php';
    }

    function bot_admin_actions() {
    add_options_page("Bot Counter", "Bot Counter", 1,
    "Bot-Counter", "bot_menu");
    }

    add_action('admin_menu', 'bot_admin_actions');

    I need a regular page. Would that be similar? Not really sure what’s going on here…

    EDIT 2: OK, I’m not gonna bother with that at this point. I’ll first create a memberlogin.php and account.php as regular wp custom pages in my template.

    More later…

    Disabling them is just removing this from the template files:

    <?php bp_the_site_blog_avatar_thumb() ?>

    in bp-themes/bpmember/directories

    I have to keep them in, because no picture would kinda break the logic of the layout.

    So what is the latest on this? How/where can you set the blog avatar? When will this functionality be added to BP?

    @peterverkooijen

    Where would you put the code Burt Adsit suggested? Could that go straight into blogs-loop.php? Or a custom function somewhere?

    @peterverkooijen

    I need to find a solution for this as well.

    Found this related post. PatG221 says: “I understand that changing the blog avatar is not possible yet…”

    Really? :-(

    Can’t get BP_REGISTER_SLUG to work. Are you sure it exists?

    I don’t have bp_show_register_page() in my register.php template file, if that’s what you mean. It has bp_core_signup_do_signup().

    I’ve customized a lot. It would be hell to trace back where it got lost. I’m looking for a blunt solution – botte bijl in Dutch. Something straightforward that just works.

    Isn’t there a php solution to add something to the body class (in header.php) from a template file like register.php?

    Edit: Oops, think I see the problem. The header still had wp_body_class() instead of my custom_body_class().

    Edit2: Now remember that was deliberate. I needed a custom_body_class for bpmember, but my custom function messed up regular wp-pages, so in bphome I used wp_body_class. So why doesn’t /register have any usable tags? Very confused…

    Will this be easier in version 1.1 as well? :-)

    @peterverkooijen

    Participant

    I see the blunt solution is to just add this to the top of a template page:

    if (!is_user_logged_in() ){
    bp_core_redirect( $bp->root_domain.'/register' );
    }

    I still have no good solution for a ‘restricted access’ message, but hopefully users will get the point…

    @peterverkooijen

    How can I apply this to a custom page?

    @peterverkooijen

    How do I get the correct body tag in the signup/register page?

    Is it a ‘component’? An ‘action’? It doesn’t behave as a custom page either…?

    This does not work:

    if ( is_page('register') )
    $c[] = 'members';

    r-a-y, I keep the blog URL field visible, but add ‘readonly’ to the input tag.

    I’ve noticed the same blog creation code is also in bp-blogs-template-tags.php, which is used in the members areas. So if you want to use this method, you’ll also have to hack that file. :-(

    Why don’t both blog creation pages use the same form and processing functions?
