    I would prefer moving all admin for members out of wp-admin into the site, instead of trying to make wp-admin look more like the site. Keep wp-admin for admin only and put all member functionality in the site.

    I’d be happy to test this. Keep me posted.

    I get this same error after a clean reinstall with the latest WPMU + BP 1.1.1. What’s going on?

    EDIT: I hadn’t activated the Buddypress plugin. Forgot it was a plugin. Perhaps mention that in readme.txt?

    Why don’t you try it youself?

    Because I know it’s on the roadmap, I think for version 1.3 – and I’m not really a programmer.

    Maybe taking feedwordpress as starting point could save Andy and others some time?

    I’ll look into this myself when I upgrade to 1.1, which is going to be a mess with all the amateurish hacking I’ve done…

    If members don’t create blogs, where would those external blogs appear then? In the member profile page? Do you mean we can already use Andy’s external blogs plugin for that?

    Confused…

    Wouldn’t this plugin cover what we need?

    It seemlessly merges posts from an RSS feed with other posts in your blog. If there was a way to selectively offer this plugin to member blogs, that would solve it for me.

    And perhaps some integration with Buddypress account areas to make it more idiot-proof; a field where members can enter their RSS feed, without having to go into the plugin back-end.

    @socialpreneur, I did not post the original question, just a follow-up question. Anyway I want to be sure I’m trying membership plugins that actually work with Buddypress, so I’d like to hear what people have to say on this forum.

    Buddypress is great, but how member/profile data is stored in the database is a mess.

    Are there more membership plugins than this one? I get nothing when I search “membership” or “subscription”.

    Thanks Anointed, that sounds great.

    How solid/mature is it as a membership plugin, compared with “market leaders” like WishList and MemberWing? I was going with WishList, but may have to reconsider.

    Are there any plans to add this kind of functionality to standard Buddypress?

    Edit: I see Supporter only has PayPal support…

    Edit: WishList has more than PayPal, but no Amazon or credit cards either…

    Supporter looks like another paid membership plugin. Usefull, but I don’t think it makes plugins deployment any more selective:

    … only supporters get Plugins

    Still sounds like all or nothing.

    This Privacy Component sounds like a huge step forward. Eager to implement and test, as soon as I have time. Thanks Jeff Sayre.

    Thanks r-a-y. I have installed the plugin. Now waiting for members to sign up new blogs so I’ll see what will happen – done with testing for now…

    Thanks for the creative suggestion, David. I figured it would be a problem for the reasons you’ve mentioned, so I’ll just go for the laissez faire approach then.

    OK, thanks DJPaul. I’ll just ignore it for now then. I’ll tackle the upgrade to 1.1 sometime next month.

    New development. The Buddypress.org/blog/page/2/ URL no longer directs you to an error page, but instead gives you the same list of posts as on the first page.

    I have this same problem. What’s the latest on this? What causes the problem? Is there a fix?

    @peterverkooijen

    Correction to the code above: In most cases it’s probably safer to just remove this from the INSERT query for ‘mailingusers’ (or whatever your mailing list uses):

    users_id='$user_id',

    In ListMessenger this ID is incremental. If you force it take the same ID as used in WordPress you may get nasty errors.

    @peterverkooijen

    Participant

    Thanks Jeff Sayre, that confirms what I feared.

    So is there any way to do this safely? Where can I get a complete list of all the tables and ID fields I would have to manually alter?

    Or is there a possible php hack? Set id=id+3000 somewhere at the point of creation?

    If I abandon the idea of having the same ID in my mailing list as WPMU/BP I could just do something like this I guess:

    INSERT mailusers SET users_id=INCREMENTAL ...

    Have to find the right word/syntax for that. Or could I leave it out altogether?

    EDIT: Just removing users_id= solves the problem. It doesn’t look like it’s worth the trouble to keep the IDs the same.

    @peterverkooijen

    Participant

    That would be wp_users, but isn’t that ID used as a key (?) elsewhere in the database? Would it get “altered” automatically throughout the system?

    @peterverkooijen

    Participant

    2000 insert/deletes. It’s gonna be a long night… ;-(

    Is inflate the technical term?

    Found this somewhere:

    If you just want to change the auto_increment without deleting everything, you can

    ALTER TABLE tbl_name AUTO_INCREMENT = xxx

    (where xxx is an integer). Or use the operations page in phpmyadmin …

    But what table(s?) should I apply that to? Only wp_users? Would the rest automatically follow?

    Scary stuff…

    dwpers, css can be a bitch. My strategy is usually to take everything out and add definitions one by one and see what does what, with a clean working example as reference. Less is often more.

    @peterverkooijen

    So how do I style that page? Should I had header and future etc. to function bp_core_screen_general_settings_content? Or at the top and bottom of that file?

    Or can I bring it into the template somehow?

    What does bp_core_template_plugin/plugin-template in that same file do?

    Probably plugin-template.php after all?

    EDIT: Yes, it was plugin-template.php.

    @peterverkooijen

    Here is a clearer example.

    jQuery comes with WordPress, but remember to change $ to jQuery in the javascript, like this:

    jQuery(document).ready(function(){
    jQuery('li.headlink').hover(
    function() { $('ul', this).css('display', 'block'); },
    function() { $('ul', this).css('display', 'none'); });
    });

    It’s to prevent clashes with other javascript libraries.

    @peterverkooijen

    Participant

    Probably. The BP navbar is an unordered list – lu, li etc. – which would be vertical by default if it wasn’t for CSS trickery.

    Most of these jQuery navigation things are based on lu-li as well, so you may be able to find one that works without having to mess with the menu code.

    @peterverkooijen

    I’d go for a jQuery drop down menu.
