In reply to: Move top navigation bar (wp-admin-bar)
Thanks!
In reply to: Move top navigation bar (wp-admin-bar)What are the consequences of removing <?php wp_footer(); ?> from footer.php?
It works as a way to remove the top navigation bar, but I don’t know if there’s other code in wp_footer() that’s required for other things.
In reply to: Changing Profile Field OrderAny progress on this?
In reply to: Securing components from non logged in usersIs there still no clean version of this functionality, built in version 1.0 or in a proper plugin, including redirects (or working Ajax) with clear ‘restricted area, please login’ messages for the user?
This issue is not resolved imho.
In reply to: How to change email notificationsAny progress on this with the latest releases?
In reply to: External Blogs@ Nicola Greco, thanks! Good to hear this will still happen. I’m too busy with other things as well. I should finish my site before September.
In reply to: External BlogsAnyone?
In reply to: How to change email notificationsI\’d like to know as well. Especially that \”Dear User\” annoys the hell out of me. \”User\” sounds like \”drug user\” or \”abuser\” or \”you\’re not a friend, you\’re just a user!\”.
The email is sent out after the new member has already given his name. There should be a way to just include the full name or first name in the welcome email. It\’s standard practice.
BTW, Socialpreneur, do you mean this thread? It’s not very helpful.
In reply to: External BlogsHas this plugin now been released with 1.0 final? What’s the latest news?
Again, will this badly needed functionality be part of the upcoming Buddypress 1.0 final?
In reply to: Securing components from non logged in usersWill the option to restrict the members, groups and blogs sections to members-only be part of Buddypress 1.0 final?
In reply to: External BlogsI’m eagerly awaiting this plugin as well.

I have something similar at my current home-baked site; members can add an RSS feed to their profile, showing their blog on their profile page and the latest posts of all members on the members homepage.
My version uses SimplePie as well, but there’s a lot wrong with the code. It doesn’t properly check if the submitted URL is really an RSS feed for example.
And I would have no clue how to transport it to BuddyPress, with the complicated way profile data is stored over several tables.
Go Nicola Greco!
In reply to: MySQL Query QuestionI need to figure this out as well. I think this thread has some clues.
How does this work in WPMU/BP? Where are the queries anyway? Should we use WPMU/BP specific tags/code instead? Are there code examples of common database requests somewhere?
Any pointers are very much appreciated.
In reply to: “BuddyPress” logo on the top left hand sideIs there a way to replace the img with just the word ‘Home’ in the same font/style as the rest of the navigation?
In reply to: “BuddyPress” logo on the top left hand sideI\\\’ve tried replacing this:
\\\’ **** Default BuddyPress admin bar logo ********
function bp_adminbar_logo() {
global $bp;
echo \\\’root_domain . \\\’\\\”><img id=\\\”admin-bar-logo\\\” src=\\\”\\\’ . apply_filters( \\\’bp_admin_bar_logo_src\\\’, site_url( MUPLUGINDIR . \\\’ … admin_bar_logo.gif\\\’ ) ) . \\\’\\\” alt=\\\”\\\’ . apply_filters( \\\’bp_admin_bar_logo_alt_text\\\’, __( \\\’BuddyPress\\\’, \\\’buddypress\\\’ ) ) . \\\’\\\” >\\\’;
}\\\’
with this:
\\\’ **** Default BuddyPress admin bar logo ********
function bp_adminbar_logo() {
global $bp;
echo \\\’root_domain . \\\’\\\”>Home\\\’;
}\\\’
That should only replace the img with text, but for some reason it messes up the entire top line navigation. Apparently there\\\’s some code mixed in with the already overcomplicated img link that\\\’s required for what follows after. What and why?!
Aaarrrggghhh…. I give up. It’s impossible to show the code without it becoming a mess.

In reply to: Securing components from non logged in usersOne problem:
When you try to enter the members section when you\’re not logged in, you\’re forwarded to the registration page with that fancy fade-out error message. In the address bar you\’ll have something like this:
http://mywebsite.com/register?s=1
Unfortunately when you then log in on that page, you\’ll get the error message again while you\’re getting logged in and you\’ll stay on register?s=1 where you\’ll see this message in the page:
You\’re logged in already. No need to register again!
Did I introduce mistakes in my version of the code?
Is it possible to expand this code with an \”if logged in, forward to homepage in 0 seconds\” bit of php magic?:
‘<?php
if($_REQUEST[“s”]){?>
<script type=”text/javascript”>
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
setTimeout(function(){ jQuery(“#error”).fadeOut(“slow”); }, 6000);
});
</script>
<div id=”error” class=”error”>
<h3>The page you were trying to access is for members only. Please login or register to continue.</h3>
</div>
<?php } ?>’
If that code gets too long, it is possible to turn it into an nice include or function, perhaps somehow included in bp-custom.php?
In reply to: Plugin: Force Login for Member Pages@Stefk, try Burtadsit’s solution.
Private members and groups sections should be a core feature of Buddypress imho.
In reply to: Restrict user blogs (tools, pages, themes)No. Here\’s some code from the plugin:
‘/* Hide the Dashboard link (2.5+) and the Tools menu (2.7) */
function wphd_hide_dashboard() {
global $menu, $current_user;
if (!current_user_can(‘edit_posts’)) {
if (0 <= wphd_hide_dashboard_version(‘2.6’)) {
unset($menu[0]);
} else if (0 >= wphd_hide_dashboard_version(‘2.7’)) {
unset($menu[0]);
unset($menu[4]);
unset($menu[55]);
}
}
}
‘
I\’d remove \’unset($menu[4]);\’ and \’55\’ and see what happens. Someone who better understands programming may be able do add/edit this to get what you want.
The plugin is from Kim Parsell. Perhaps you can convince her to expand it and make it more modular.
In reply to: Restrict user blogs (tools, pages, themes)The WP Hide Dashboard plugin may help.
In reply to: Why is BuddyPress stripping my object or embed tags?For me the Unfiltered MU plugin solved the problem.
In reply to: Securing components from non logged in usersI think Burtsadit’s original code did show the directories:
‘MEMBERS_SLUG == $bp_unfiltered_uri[0] && !empty( $bp->current_action ) ||
BP_GROUPS_SLUG == $bp->current_component && !empty( $bp->current_action )’
I took out the ‘&& !empty( $bp->current_action )’ parts. Put them back in and see what happens. Haven’t tried that myself.
In reply to: Welcome Pack update requestDoes Welcome Pack have options to customize the activitation email (without messing up wpmu-functions.php) and insert the actual first name or full name of the new user in ‘Dear User’?
I’ve asked about that here. Burtadsit said you were working on this.
Apologies I haven’t even tried Welcome Pack yet. I’m in the middle of my day job. Shouldn’t even be here…
In reply to: How to use full name, first name + last nameThanks again for the useful info Burtadsit!
In reply to: Securing components from non logged in usersOK! I now have this in bp-custom.php:
‘<?
function js_restrict_access(){
global $bp, $bp_unfiltered_uri;
if (!is_user_logged_in() &&
(MEMBERS_SLUG == $bp_unfiltered_uri[0] ||
BP_GROUPS_SLUG == $bp->current_component ||
BP_BLOGS_SLUG == $bp->current_component)){
bp_core_redirect( get_option(‘home’) . “/register?s=1” );
}
}
add_action( ‘wp’, ‘js_restrict_access’, 3 );
?>’
And this in register.php:
‘<?php
if($_REQUEST[“s”]){?>
<script type=”text/javascript”>
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
setTimeout(function(){ jQuery(“#error”).fadeOut(“slow”); }, 6000);
});
</script>
<div id=”error” class=”error”>
<h3>The page you were trying to access is for members only. Please login or register to continue.</h3>
</div>
<?php } ?>’
Does exactly what I want. Thanks Burtadsit!

It would be even nicer if the Ajax would first show the message and then replace it with the registration form: ‘<?php bp_core_signup_do_signup() ?>’
I’ll try to figure that out next weekend…
In reply to: How to use full name, first name + last nameWhy don’t you just add two additional profile fields (last name & first name) , make them required so they show up on registration and then write a custom function to tweak the sign up email?
Yes, that’s what I want to do. But how would that work?
I’d already tried editing wpmu-functions.php, replace ‘Dear User’ with ‘Dear DISPLAYNAME’ and then add this line:
\’$welcome_email = str_replace( “DISPLAYNAME”, $user->display_name, $welcome_email );\’
But the display_name field in wp_users has the username, not the full name. Full name and other profile fields are in wp_bp_xprofile_fields + wp_bp_xprofile_data. I have no clue how to get them from there.
Is it possible to write a function to retrieve full name (or first + last) from wp_bp_xprofile_data and put the result in the email? How does that work? Can you point me to a code example that shows the basic principles?
