I’m sure people will be writing plugins to extend the default Buddypress functionality once it’s released. I think Andy is making sure that it will be easy to write new plugins. It will be just a matter of time…

Andy posted here asking for help with fixing the IE6/7 problems with the Buddypress themes.

@Andy, if someone has an external blog they can specify the URL in our External Blog settings at themoment and their blog will be included in our site. Generally a member with an external blog would only register and not create a blog on our site as they can use their external blog…

A “Settings” page under their profile would sound like a good spot for this…

I guess I will wait a while longer before I attempt to upgrade our site with the latest BP changes as I see there are a few wrinkles to iron out :).

So Andy, I’ve got some extra stuff going on in the Home base admin on my site. My question is now that home bases are gone, where can I put the extra stuff?

Thanks Andy! We’ll be looking at the forum and other BP parts later. By then you may have released the first stable version… but good to know that the integration with BBPress is taking shape.

Well BP isn’t released yet. It changes all the time, bugs are found and fixed often. I’ve made many hacks and fixes to BP for the site we released recently since we can’t wait for the official release at the end of the year… it’s the nature of the bleeding edge beast :)

@owe, BuddyPress only works with WP Mu. If you want to use the normal WP, then you’re better off to find some plugins that will give you the functionality you want. There is an avatar plugin for WP as well as a private messaging one. There may be a friends one too, I can’t remember. Just look through the WP Codex Plugin directory.

@nolageek the external site integration is a plugin we’ve developed to allow entering and checking the blog RSS and selecting an avatar image for the blog. Then we aggregate the external content using SimplePie RSS. SimplePie makes this very easy. On the Latest Posts page for the network blogs, we use the multifeed aggreagation feature of SimplePie. Just throw an array of RSS feeds at it and it comes back with the content. SimplePie uses disk caching so it’s pretty zippy once the feeds are loaded.

    Thanks for the feedback.

What I’d look for in a default theme is not necessarily the styling but the functionality. It should provide all possible features of BuddyPress and be documented reasonably well to make customisation easy. Hardly anyone will use a theme out-of-the box anyway. If anything you wouldn’t want to overload it with too many styles and graphics :).

The theme looks nice and goes with the look and feel of the BP profile theme.

By the way, what will the criteria for the active/popular groups and members tabs be?
