Thanks for your comments, Beck. Glad you like the plugin. Re: your thoughts. It’s a good idea, but a little troublesome on my end. I’m basically overriding every single instance of the display name, so I’d have to add the title attribute to every single instance. Also, depending on the filter I’m overriding, this might […]

r-a-y posted on the forum topic building a plugin – display a image in the group header in the group Creating & Extending: 15 years, 5 months ago
@nit3watch – No, I didn’t try it. I fixed your gcard_group_card() function previously.
After looking at your code again, it looks like you’re never calling that function so nothing is displayed.
You need to add the gcard_group_card() function somewhere in the gcard_show_card_in_header() function. Probably after the header.

r-a-y posted on the forum topic WP-FB-AutoConnect working but can't override facebook avatar from buddypress change avatar page? in the group Third Party Components & Plugins: 15 years, 5 months ago
To remove FB avatars from the FB plugin, add the following to your theme’s functions.php:
remove_filter( 'bp_core_fetch_avatar', 'jfb_get_facebook_avatar', 10, 4 );To have an option between either the BP avatar and the FB avatar, some custom code would be needed to display an admin option in the user’s settings page.

r-a-y posted on the forum topic Exclude members from the Members Loop? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 5 months ago
Right now, there is no “exclude” parameter in bp_has_members(). However you could filter certain members out with a little hackery. In the members loop, do a conditional to check the member’s username against something. If it matches, skip it. eg.
if ( bp_get_member_user_login() == 'USERNAME_TO_CHECK' ) continue;This would go right after…[Read more] -

r-a-y posted on the forum topic Where is the bbpress forum? in the group Creating & Extending: 15 years, 5 months ago
In BuddyPress, forums reside in groups, so you need to create a group first and enable the discussion forum that way If you think of how Facebook structures forums in fan pages, then you’ll have a better understanding of how bbPress works in BP: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/faqs/#forum As always, you can test out how this functions on […]

r-a-y posted on the forum topic how upgrade an old bp theme, please? in the group Creating & Extending: 15 years, 5 months ago
If you relied a lot on the BP 1.0 or 1.1 theme structure, then you’d need to install the BP Backwards Compatibility plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/ I should note I have no experience using this plugin whatsoever. hnla is right; if your theme isn’t too custom, I would recommend building a new child…[Read more]

r-a-y posted on the forum topic Create group button not showing? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 5 months ago
If you’re logged in, you can create a group from the Group directory page:
example.com/groupsThere should be a button that says “Create a Group”.
If you don’t see this button, there is a problem with your theme. nit3watch eludes to the following file – /groups/index.php – in your theme’s folder.

There appears to be a bug with the bp_get_activity_avatar() function. On closer inspection, these are loafers… wait sorry… it looks like the function is trying to pass the group ID and the component as group, but it adds a redundant check for a user ID, which breaks this functionality. Going to create a patch right […]

Check out the links loop in /buddypress-links/themes/bp-links-default.php.
For parameters in the links loop, check out the bp_has_links() function in /buddypress-links/bp-links-templatetags.php.The links loop works similar to any BP loop:

r-a-y posted on the forum topic Removing posts authors avatars…? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 5 months ago
Can you be specific?
Are you talking about the blog author on the left hand side of the blog entry?
If so, copy over /bp-themes/bp-default/single.php to your child theme and remove the “author-box” div.
Then in your CSS to remove the left margin, do this:
div.post div.post-content {margin-left:0 !important;} -

You shouldn’t need to download JCrop, as it should already be called when you’re on the crop avatar page.
I’m guessing that you’re using another JS script that is interfering with it. -
r-a-y posted on the forum topic Do not allow blogs but have main blog show up in activity stream? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 5 months ago
It’s possible, you’d have to check the current blog and the activity type before the activity is saved to the DB. Apply a filter to “bp_activity_type_before_save” (located in bp-activity/bp-activity-classes.php), check to see if the activity is a blog post or a blog comment. Then, check the global $current_blog variable to see if it matches the […]
