In reply to: [Resolved] threaded comments won’t work after update
The 1.6 branch of BuddyPress should have this fixed now.
You can either temporarily patch bp-default’s JS:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6704Or wait until 1.6.3 officially drops.
In reply to: Redirect wp-login.php to front pageYou might want to look into a login redirector plugin like:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/peters-login-redirect/
There are other plugins that do something similar so try a few out and see what works for you.
In reply to: [Resolved] Why no topics showing on home page? The problem is you installed both the bbPress plugin and enabled the “Discussion Forums” component in BuddyPress.
Since you’re using bbPress for your forums, do what I suggested here:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/forum-setup-2/#post-146882In reply to: [Resolved] My Join Group button is acting funnyIt’s working on my browser.
I hit the “Join Group” button, then the page refreshes with the group join message.
In reply to: BuddyPress Group Forum: Page not found errorHi Mark,
Gotcha, this is a bbPress bug:
https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2094Hopefully it will be addressed in the next bbPress update.
In reply to: BuddyPress Group Forum: Page not found errorHi Mark,
Try the steps I listed here and see if that helps:https://buddypress.org/support/topic/forum-setup-2/#post-146882
In reply to: [Resolved] forum setup? If you want to use the bbPress plugin instead of the bundled forums in BuddyPress, try these steps:
1. Login to the WP admin dashboard, navigate to “Settings > BuddyPress“. Enable the “Discussion Forums” component and save.
2. Navigate to “Settings > BuddyPress“. Click on the “Pages” tab. Under “Discussion Forums”, select “None” and save.
3. Navigate back to “Settings > BuddyPress“. Make sure you’re on the “Components” tab. Uncheck the “Discussion Forums” component and save.Edit your “Community” page in WordPress, add the shortcode:

On a separate line and without any special tags or characters around it. If you’re using the Visual Editor, change to “Text” mode to ensure there are no special tags.
See if that helps.
In reply to: Why is my custom component inactiveI’d check out the BP Skeleton Component sample plugin. That should show you how to extend the
BP_Componentclass for your new plugin. In reply to: Forums not workingI do not have experience with the Salutation theme; I would ask the theme developer if they’ve added specific bbPress styling / templating to the theme.
But according to beingblissful, the theme is hard to work with.
This sounds like a bug with bbPress and how it supports BuddyPress groups.
Please post a bug report at:
https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/newticketSign in with the same credentials you use here on bp.org.
In reply to: Commons in a box questionHi Peter,
Commons In A Box is not a fork of BuddyPress. It utilizes BuddyPress as well as other vetted BuddyPress plugins together to form an easy package to work from. The rationale is you shouldn’t have to go and find which plugins work and don’t work. CBOX also packages a nice theme to work with that is easily customizable.
Check out the CBOX website for more info. Also feel free to register and ask questions over there.
In reply to: Is Buddypress for me?Please try not to post the same thing across several threads. A good rule of thumb is to create a new topic for your questions and not bumping older topics that haven’t been responded to in awhile.
As for your questions:
* Geotagging for member profiles – several plugins exist. You might want to try Mapology. It’s a premium plugin, but it’s probably the most feature-rich.
* Auto-refresh activity page – there are a few plugins out there, but I haven’t really tested all of them. Try this one:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/rs-buddypress-activity-refresh/* Events – again, several plugins exist. Do a search on Google for “buddypress events” and you’ll find the top plugins.
You’ll probably want to test out a few of those plugins to see which ones will suit your needs.
Hope that helps.
In reply to: IE Forum Component not set upJust tested your registration page on IE8 and it shows up without that message.
Are you using some caching plugins? If so, disable it or whitelist the registration page from being cached.
Also try purging your browser cache for IE. One other thing I noticed is the javascript is failing, which prevents me from using the captcha service you’re using.
In reply to: Remove Create a Blog option from signupIf you’re using a child theme of the bp-default theme, modify /registration/register.php and remove this block of code:
http://pastebin.com/tvKBRnW6If you don’t have /registration/register.php located in your theme’s directory, copy it from /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/
In reply to: Move group forum topic to different groupCan I suggest we update the guide to include a note to ‘check your bp-config.php file to confirm the table prefix’
Good call, daneglerum. I’ve updated the codex article. Feel free to update it yourself! Anyone who has access on buddypress.org should have access to edit any article on codex.buddypress.org.
I just tried to duplicate what both of you were experiencing in BuddyPress 1.6.1.
I logged in as a regular member and tried to navigate to another member’s settings page. It redirects me back to the member’s home page.
I’ve read issues similar to both of you about the redirect issue.
You can try removing the canonical redirect. Do this by adding one of the following in /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php:
add_filter( 'bp_do_redirect_canonical', '__return_false' );remove_action( 'bp_template_redirect', 'bp_redirect_canonical', 2 );And see if that helps.
In reply to: Forums not workingI cannot get the link to open in Chrome. But it does open in IE. I have seen those instructions before. But in step 4 the screen capture shows 3 options under bbPress. It shows “Settings”, “Deactivate” and “Edit”. I do not have those options. I have “Network Deactivate” and “Edit”.
The link to the codex article I provided does not have any screenshots.
I can’t even get the Forums menu to show up on the menu bar.
This is a bbPress issue. You have to create your own page for Forums. When you create a new page, make sure to add one of the bbPress shortcodes to display what you want (you’ll probably want to use
). Then, add your page to your theme’s custom menu.-

In reply to: Mail without linksIf you’re planning on sticking with older versions of WP, BP and Group Email Subscription, you might as well modify the Group Email Subscription code to remove the links for your own use.
If you want to do this without modifying the Group Email code and you are familiar with WordPress filters, hook into these filters:
‘bp_ass_new_topic_content’
‘bp_ass_forum_reply_content’
‘bp_ass_activity_notification_content’And write your own functions to remove the links in the content. This will not remove the email footer links.
Hope that helps!
In reply to: Forums not workingIf you’re using bbPress 2.2.2 and BuddyPress, the preferred method going forward is to disable the “Discussion Forums” component in BuddyPress and use bbPress to handle group forums.
Try reading this guide:
https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/And let us know if you have any questions or if the guide isn’t clear.
In reply to: Commons in a box questionHi Peter, Commons In A Box installs BuddyPress for you if you don’t have it installed.
In reply to: BP Mail Function screwing with Gravity FormsThanks everyone for posting about this issue. I’ve also encountered this as well.
It’s definitely BuddyPress being a bit aggressive with its email filter. I’ll post a new issue about this and hopefully we can address this for v1.7.
Update: ticket created
In reply to: has anyone converted BP forums to bbpress?Cool, thanks JJJ.
I’ve added an article to the codex:
`https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/`Anyone, feel free to edit!
@chibib0 – It’s a little hidden, but you have to navigate to the blogs directory and click on the “Create” button.
If you want to hardcode a link, it should be to the URL of the blogs directory plus the /create/ slug.
eg. example.com/blogs/create/In reply to: Settings templatedrrxa – Unfortunately, this is a bug:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3586In reply to: [Resolved] define registration pageAs of BP 1.5, `BP_REGISTER_SLUG` isn’t used for this purpose anymore.
Login to the WP dashboard, navigate to “Pages” and find the registration page you registered with BuddyPress under the BuddyPress page settings area.
Next, edit the page and change the page slug and save.
This should give you your custom page slug for the registration page.
