    so i have tried all the basic stuff (deactivating plugins, default theme re-installing plugin) and so far nothing seems to be able to crush this bug. what happens is that if you are on a group page and you click the join group button it doesn’t refresh as you would expect. oddly enough if you disable javascript then re-enable it the button starts work as you would expect. anyone ever seen that one?

    thanks for any input!

    It’s working on my browser.

    I hit the “Join Group” button, then the page refreshes with the group join message.

    hum just checked it again and have heard this issue exists on other browsers as well just curious what browser are you using? also just doubled checking you are doing the from the group page not the group list page. thanks for the feedback!

    Checked in FF 17 and IE 9, I was able to click Join Group and become a member via Group Directory or in the individual Group’s page

    this is definitely getting stranger thanks for the additional input. i know that in my browser this works on another version of this exact same site but not on the primary site using Safari 5 and has been confirmed by at least 2 windows users.

    :/

    Checked on Windows7 using Safari and you’re right, when you click on the Join Group in the individual group’s page, the link doesn’t change to “Leave Group”. However, stay on the same page and click on a different item nav – Members – and you’ll see that “Leave Group” text appear. Same thing happens when you click on “Leave Group” link, text doesn’t change to “Join Group”. But go to another item nav page e.g. Forums and you’ll see notice that you’ve left the group and the text in link changed to “Join Group”.

    any idea what could be causing that?

    So: Safari, on Windows. Recreated by several users on multiple installs. Sounds like a bug. Do we have a trac ticket for this?

    i don’t think anyone else has actually re-created this, maybe i’m wrong?

    @ubernaut just tested Windows7 and Safari and same behavior applies with the latest WP/BP versions. Please do the honor of posting trac ticket for this issue.

    EDIT – DOING_AJAX https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4736

    @ubernaut did you apply the fix https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6679 ?
    Let me know and I can help test in your site.

    @mercime i couldn’t find one of those files in 1.6.2 maybe does that fix rely on having file structure from 1.7?

    you have another site doing the same thing?

    @mercime

    @ubernaut bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress-functions.php is in trunk yes. But you could already apply the fix for bp-themes/bp-default/functions.php on this line https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.6.2/bp-themes/bp-default/functions.php#L115

    any other ideas @mercime ?

    @real123 , did you see my question? i’m curious to see another site with this same issue so i can try to find a common thread.

    @ubernaut the fix was in BP Default’s functions.php file. Did you check if it was corrected in BP Default theme? For that matter, did you try to apply the same fix in the functions.php file of Reviewit theme and see if issue is resolved with the fix?

    @ubernaut

    @mercime i hadn’t actually thought of that before (doh!) but i just checked it again and no there wasn’t any change to the behavior of the button when i activated bp default. Also there was no corresponding line of code in reviewit. :/

    Quick update on this one i had incorrectly reported in devchat that 1.7 fixes this issue. What actually had happened is that on our staging server at wp engine where i had installed 1.7 to test compatibility with our existing setup the button worked properly but when i made the same upgrade on our live site the problem still exists.

    It’s my conclusion at this point that something about wp engine’s caching infrastructure is at the root of the problem because i had previously been informed the staging areas do not implement caching.

    So just a quick shout out to anyone who’s using wp engine currently if any of you have noticed this problem and figured a way around it i would be very appreciative for any info you can provide. i will of course report any solution i am able to find.

    update: the problem has been isolated to a conflict with wp engines object caching (i knew it front he beginning) 😛 anyway it does not appear to be quite universal (i have seen other buddypress sites on their system that appear to work normally) but if you are using wp engine and your join group button is acting funny request for them to turn off your object caching at least until they figure why it’s not working completely with buddypress.

    funny site note: i swear my site seems faster (maybe sporadically so) without the object caching.

    also any mods that see this please feel fee to mark this resolved.
