In reply to: BuddyPress throwing 404
Yes, using the admin panel to install BuddyPress will always download the latest, stable release.
Don’t move the wordpress directory! If you need to reinstall WordPress in the root directory, do it from scratch!
In reply to: What template file is used for the account settings?/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-settings.php
It’s a little hard to override the settings currently, but it’s possible.
In reply to: BuddyPress throwing 404Did you enable pretty permalinks like mercime suggested? Are you using the latest version of BP?
Did you install WordPress in a subdirectory with these instructions?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_DirectoryIf so, there are bugs with BP 1.2.8 relating to subdirectory installs.
Please read this thread to resolve the login/logout issue for now:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/loginlogout-from-admin-bar-does-not-workIn reply to: How to display the User Post Count in Topic.phpYou’re using the plugin wrong.
Member Profile Stats, by default, passes the displayed user ID for many of the template tags; you’ll need to pass the topic poster’s ID.
eg. `bp_member_profile_stats_get_member_post_count( $user_id = false )`
Unfortunately, there is no native function to pass the topic poster ID. However one can easily be created:
`function my_topic_poster_id() {
global $topic_template;
return $topic_template->post->poster_id;
}
`Then you can pass it in the function:
`echo bp_member_profile_stats_get_member_post_count( my_topic_poster_id() )`In reply to: Facebook like for BuddyPressDo not use widgets that make use of iframe or script tags in a loop! Very bad load performance like you said!
Unfortunately you cannot use something like FB Like without an iframe or script tag as it requires pinging FB for the like count.—
Whenever possible, use links instead. The Shareholic API can help:
http://www.shareaholic.com/api/There are probably other similar APIs out there as well.
In reply to: BuddyPress throwing 404These are not errors, but debug notices.
Most of these debug notices have been fixed in the forthcoming version of BuddyPress.
Do you have WP_DEBUG defined?
In reply to: Hidden Group InvitationHidden group pages can always be accessed if you know the group permalink / URL. However if you’re not a member of that group, you won’t be able to view any of that group’s content for privacy reasons.
If I’m understanding correctly, you want the invitee to be able to view the hidden group’s content before joining the group, correct? This could raise some permission problems like posting. Would need investigating.
In reply to: How display login form on websitetest.php is not a WordPress page, therefore you need to call WordPress in your custom script before you can use WordPress / BuddyPress functions.
Read this:
http://wpengineer.com/1038/embed-wordpress-functions-outside-wordpress/There’s a bunch more articles like this on the web. Do a search on Google to find out more.
In reply to: How to display the User Post Count in Topic.phpUse the Member Profile Stats plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-member-profile-stats/It comes with a set of handy template tags you can use like post count.
In reply to: Ajax pagination and SEOIf you check the HTML source, pagination occurs in between the “ tag; I believe search engines still read the noscript tag so you should be fine.
If you’re not happy with this, you can output the pagination links within the activity loop template with:
`bp_activity_pagination_links()`In reply to: I dont know how to installNot really! Codex page doesn’t say install WordPress
In reply to: I dont know how to installHi,
BuddyPress depends on WordPress. Have you installed WordPress on your hosting account?
If not, I would kindly say this is a WordPress issue. Try reading this article to install WordPress:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPressIf that article is greek to you, Hostgator should have some form of customer support; it should be quite easy for them to setup WordPress for you.
If you need additional help, please head over to the WordPress support forum:
https://wordpress.org/supportOnce you have WordPress setup, all you need to do is to login to your WordPress admin dashboard and navigate to “Plugins > Add New”. Then, search for “buddypress” and install.
In reply to: Can We Install 2 buddypress On Different DomainsYes, you can install multiple WPs on a single database.
You just need to install each version of WordPress with a different DB prefix:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_BlogsIn reply to: Login/logout from admin bar does not workThis is scheduled to be fixed in BP 1.3.
In the meantime, open up /buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-adminbar.php and apply the code change listed on the following page as a temporary workaround:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/3052In reply to: Allow admin to edit users profilesSuper admins can edit any member profile by default.
When logged in as the super admin, check out the BuddyBar at the top of the site, there should be an “Admin Options” menu when you’re on a member’s page. Hover over this menu, next click on “Edit username’s profile” to edit the full profile of the user in question.

For the “user notes” field, did a quick search to see if such a plugin existed, but could not find one. However, it shouldn’t be too hard to write such a plugin.
bhain3s – Your error sounds like BuddyPress was partially uploaded and activated. If possible, try a manual upload to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory and reactivate BP:
In reply to: Auto Join all sites?There’s this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-default-user-role/Probably needs updating for WP 3.1 though.
In reply to: Where’s the markup for bp_activity_comments()?You can also override the activity comments with filters as well, though you’d need to duplicate a bunch of functions to do this.
In reply to: Can I make the member update excerpts longer?If you’re familiar with WordPress filters, there’s a filter you can hook into to override the member excerpt – “bp_get_member_latest_update” (located in /plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php).
If you’re new to WordPress plugin development, check out this codex article:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API#FiltersIn reply to: Updating 1.2.8 and Template PackIt’s not that straightforward because you’ll miss all the AJAX functionality from the bp-default theme; BP Template Pack just needs some lovin’.
If you can’t wait for BP Template Pack, you could copy some of bp-default’s functions.php over to achieve the same thing.I’m also working on a plugin similar to BPTP, but I’m not putting a timeline on a release date.
In reply to: ETA on Buddypress 1.3 – when will it be released?These are the remaining tickets on BP 1.3:
http://is.gd/cUn3vMy guestimate is another month and a bit. Don’t quote me on that though! (obviously I was wrong 8 months ago!)
In reply to: Need help on registrationNot sure, but I believe this has something to do with Multisite.
I don’t believe you can use “wp-login.php?action=register” in Multisite, only “wp-signup.php”.
You might want to create your own signup page. Read the “Worth Mentioning” section here:
http://www.wptavern.com/what-to-do-or-consider-after-you-enable-multisite-in-wordpress#comments (scroll up a bit)In reply to: Need help on registrationIn your secondary blog theme’s functions.php, try adding this:
`remove_action( ‘wp’, ‘bp_core_wpsignup_redirect’ );`
In reply to: Feedwordpress creating member profilesIt’s been awhile since I’ve tried out FeedWordPress, but I believe there’s a setting for you to map blog posts to already-created users. You should try that setting out.
I wouldn’t use the “create new users” options in FWP, since any WP user will have a profile in BuddyPress.
