In reply to: Problems setting up Buddypress
Does the problem go away when you disable BuddyPress?
Error 500 is a pretty vague error.
Disable BuddyPress and re-upload the /buddypress/ folder again. Make sure you uploaded all the BuddyPress files, then reactivate it and see what happens. Also make sure your .htaccess file isn’t corrupted.
You can put the code from the second patch into your theme’s functions.php file.
You’ll probably have to change “bp_loaded” to “init” though.
In reply to: help to a newbieYou should be able to with the “My Friends” tab on the activity stream directory page when you’re logged in.
In reply to: Custom Language changes not showingThis thread is over 9 months old.
The codex instructions have been updated since then to better reflect the changes made to BP 1.2.7.Putting the language file in /wp-content/languages/ is preferred because when you upgrade BP, your changes won’t be wiped out!
You have to make sure your generated .mo file is valid. I’d suggest recreating your translation files from scratch. Make very tiny changes then upload it to /wp-content/languages and check to see if your alterations stick. If they stick, keep on editing and then regenerate your translation files.
Also make sure your locale is correct.
To do a quick check, put “ in a template file somewhere and refresh the page to see.

I just tested this to confirm and it works fine; I did not try this on WP 3.1 in Multisite mode though.
Sounds like you’re using an older version of WordPress.
BP 1.2.7 requires at least WP 3.0.
In reply to: How do I display full profiles?A user needs to fill in these fields in order for them to show up on their profile page.
The profile page can usually be found here:

Okay, if you’re running a lot of plugins, consider disabling a ton of them and only enable BuddyPress and then see if your memory problems go away.
Another thread on the situation:

In reply to: The Forum Topic’s Second Post’s PositionRe-read the above post, I’ve edited it.
In reply to: The Forum Topic’s Second Post’s PositionThere’s no such function.
You could try something like this in your theme’s functions.php:
`
function my_not_first_post() {
global $topic_template;$current_page = $topic_template->pag_page – 1;
$post_position = $current_page * $topic_template->pag_num + $topic_template->current_post;
if ( 0 != $post_position ) {
// do your business here… eg.
echo ‘Re: ‘;
}}
`Then you can shove this function in topic.php:
“Disclaimer: Untested.
In reply to: Making Buddypress a Social Network for non-bloggers?Thesis is only a WordPress theme.

You don’t need to create a WordPress network if you don’t want users to create full-blown WordPress blogs.
If you want your users to post on a single WordPress install without creating a WP network, you might be interested in this thread:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/user-blogs-without-multisite/In reply to: Creating custom link in menu to profile pageCurrently, this isn’t possible to do in the dashboard, you have to manually add some template tags into your theme.
Template tags can be found in the /plugins/buddypress/ directory. Look for files suffixed with -templatetags.php.

I’ll get you started with a link to the logged in user’s profile page.
Add this to your theme’s functions.php:
`
function my_profile_link() {
global $bp;if ( $bp->loggedin_user->id )
echo ‘loggedin_user->domain . $bp->profile->slug . ‘/”>Profile‘;
}
`Then add the following in your template:
`
if ( function_exists( ‘my_profile_link’ ) )
my_profile_link();
`The rest is up to you!
In reply to: HTML/Javascript in Admin barRead this codex article:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/modifying-the-buddypress-admin-bar/In reply to: Uninstall ProblemsIf you used the BuddyPress Template Pack plugin to add BP support to your theme, the plugin copies over template files to your theme’s directory.
You can remove these template files by deleting these directories in your theme:
/activity/
/members/
/groups/
/forums/
/blogs/
/registration/Also make sure you have BuddyPress and anything BuddyPress-related deactivated.
In reply to: Fixing AlignmentI’ve edited the OP’s post above so it doesn’t break the layout.
You can also try the instructions listed here to increase your memory limit:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHPTo find the profile group id, navigate to “BuddyPress > Profile Field Setup”.
Then under the profile group you want, hover over the “Edit” or “Delete” link.
You should see a link that looks like this:
`/wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-profile-setup&mode=edit_group&group_id=2`“group_id” is the variable you’re looking for.

The alternative is to remove the `’profile_group_id=1’` declaration in the register template, that should show all profile fields that you have created.
In reply to: How do I add “Sign up”/”Register” button to sidebar?Make sure you have turned on registration in WordPress.
if you’re on single WordPress, navigate to “Settings > General” and check “Anyone can register”:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_General_SubPanelIf you’re on WP multisite, navigate to “Super Admin > Options” and under “Allow new registrations”, make sure registration is not disabled.
Then, in your sidebar, use “ to get the signup url.
In reply to: Search not workingSee if search works with the bp-default theme; if it does, then it’s a problem with the custom theme.
BP Template Pack needs to be updated.
You need to update a few of the template files so they use the new BP_Button class:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-default-theme-changelog/Match your template loop files with this:
https://trac.buddypress.org/changeset?new=3296%40branches%2F1.2%2Fbp-themes%2Fbp-default&old=3124%40branches%2F1.2%2Fbp-themes%2Fbp-default#file10And see if it fixes your problem.
In reply to: How to use “xprofile_get_field_data” in link title?The problem could be using bp_get_group_member_id() in xprofile_get_field_data().
Where are you using this function? In the group member loop? If not, you’ll need to find the correct function to return the user ID.
`$bp->displayed_user->id` might be what you’re looking for.
FWIW, I’ve encountered this on an install as well; it appears that the bp_activity_get_sitewide() function in BP_Activity_Activity::get_sitewide_items_for_feed() does not exist.
This might be what’s causing the problem.
In reply to: Profile Fields show on email to admin?You need to override the new user admin email function:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_new_user_notificationThen you need to call on some BuddyPress functions to grab the xprofile data.
xprofile_get_field_data() (located in bp-xprofile.php) will help.

If all this is foreign to you, short answer is “it’s possible, but requires coding”
In reply to: Change the language!You might want to download the localized version of BP.
According to the codex, the Italian version is located here:
