In reply to: Request: Twitter Bootstrap Responsive Theme
Switching to a theme on the basic Bootstrap grid is one thing.
I think the original poster is also wanting to change all the dynamic AJAX / jQuery based elements on BuddyPress to the Bootstrap jQuery components — that is much more complicated job.
Would be nice to see alternative UI elements for the presentation of dynamic elements of BuddyPress — not sure who’s going to fund it!
With custom coding you can cook up any sort of registration form you’d like.
register.php is the main PHP file you’d need to look at – it has the registration form in it. Hook your custom fields in there.
Add some jQuery to control the visibility of fields based on your user’s selection of member type. You’ll probably also need to be hooking into the form submission actions, to ensure your custom fields are saved correctly.
It can be done, but it’ll require fairly good web development experience.
@davidkooo – BuddyPress adds the notification bar using the function bp_members_admin_bar_notifications_menu() (in buddypress/bp-members/bp-members-adminbar.php).
If you take a look at that function, you can see how it generates the menu, and rework to include it in your template file.
In particular – take a look at the function it uses: bp_core_get_notifications_for_user()
In reply to: GRA4 – BuddyPress plugin or replacement?Their site is based on Elgg
In reply to: How does this forum work?!It’s just this site that doesn’t work.
http://testbp.org works a bit better, but I still don’t think there’s any searching of forums on there.
In reply to: email notify@ale_ba – not on this site unfortunately.
Yes, it’s standard WordPress – did you Google?

If you want their BP paths (profile URL) etc. then: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/the-bp-global/
In reply to: [Resolved] Show posts written by user on profileTwo solutions — simple link in profile header vs. profile tab
For the first: just add a link to the author archive (standard WordPress) for the displayed user in the member-header file.
For the second – Have a look at bp-skeleton component.
Create a really stripped down version which just contains the code to set up your screen (profile tab), and in there do a simple wp_query() loop with the author ID set to the displayed user ID.
@shawn38 –
If no one comes back with an example, and you need to hire a developer to help write the code, you can try on the Jobs board on this site.
In reply to: Where is functions for do_action ?This will tell you about hook and action programming in WordPress: https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API
The do_action() calls are there for you to add your own hook functions, and in some cases will also invoke hook functions that BuddyPress / Themes / other plugins have added.
You can add your own hook function that is called when the do_action ‘bp_before_registration_confirmed’ is invoked. You use add_action to add your actions.
If you have a look in the code for bp_has_activities(), you can
see how it’s implemented scope searching internally, and then create your own version:e.g. for scope=>friends, it builds an array of the friend IDs and sets that array as the user_id element of the filter.
Therefore, you should be able to do the same in your template — create an array of friend IDs, add the users own ID to the array, and then pass the array as the user ID filter to bp_has_activities().
Have a look at the scope parameter to bp_has_activities() – supports just-me and friends
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
Yes, have a look at custom activity loops here: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/
Then in your theme templates you can use any WP functions to check the current user’s role, and call your custom loop accordingly.
This question has nothing to do with BuddyPress.
Please ask on the RocketTheme, or a basic CSS / HTML forum. Or simply search ‘IE conditionals’ in Google
In reply to: How to change activation email text? For translations – you need to work with language files (I assume welcome pack supports these @djpaul).
See this for further information: https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
You can also try the ‘codestlying localization’ plugin.
also, take a look at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/
It depends what theme you are using, but typically:
/members/single folder has all the individual PHP files for the profile pages
/_inc/css folder has all the CSS filesIn reply to: How to change activation email text?Hola,
no debes modificar los archivos del ‘BuddyPress Core’. Cuando modernizas tu version, perderĂ¡s tus modificaciones .
Claro, con ‘Welcome Pack’, creo que tu modificas los emails por el plugin.
@mercime – yes, the terminology in the setup screen is confusing – de-activating forums when you want forums!
In reply to: bp_core_fetch_avatar issue after 1.6 updateI suspect that it is this ‘fix’ that has broken the functionality: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4215
In reply to: Modifying output of template_notices.@Khairul We’ve just worked on that this week.
Whilst, the template message is stored in $bp->template_message, it is also stored as a cookie.
It’s the text in the cookie that’s predominantly used (on page refresh) for the notice. To overwrite / change the content once a message had been set, we had to change the cookie.
As @djpaul says, if it’s just to strip paragraphs etc. you could look at the filter bp_core_render_message_content.
Unfortunately, the `
` around it is hardcoded in the core function – and difficult to strip out without hacking the core function.@djpaul — perhaps that’s some output html that needs removing from the core, and moving into the theme in a future release
@shawn38 — the point of the thread, was not having to rename the forums base
@djpaul – ok, yes de-activating the forums component does the trick.
I’d tried removing the page, and selecting ‘uninstall group forums’ from the forums tab, but that wasn’t working. Btw: ‘uninstall group forums’ doesn’t appear to do anything, when you leave then return to the tab, the button has reset itself to say uninstall group forums’ again (or is perhaps just displaying the wrong text).
@mercime – yes, I’d done as you suggest on a previous site, but having to manually add shortcodes isn’t quite the same as getting the default bbPress page.
I guess your new codex entry should be updated on the ‘sitewide only’ section, to say as Paul notes: also deactivate the forums component and delete the forums page.
In general, I guess the Forums Directory page in bp-default should be renamed / better described to make it clear it’s for group forums.
@karmatosed – unfortunately, you are helping on yet another duplicate thread from raminjan
@raminjan – stop creating duplicate threads and bump your old ones instead
In reply to: any way to make custom 2012 DOB date picker?DUPLICATE THREAD – you’ve already asked this question a number of times – please bump your old thread rather than starting a new one.
It’s also been explained to you that 2037 is a PHP date limit, and nothing to do with WordPress.
