Ok, I think I may have gotten it, I have set the “anyone can register” and then created a hyperlink to the correct url and then set the permalinks correctly. It works.
@modemlooper and @hugo, thank you. I had created a static front page to welcome and then created a link to register but it still would not work. Please what am I doing wrong. Thanks for the caution hugo
