    I’m trying to add a link to the Buddypress profile for each author on the author page of my custom home theme. I’m trying:

    <?php echo bp_core_get_userlink( $user->user_id ) ?>

    This simply takes me to the same author page found by the existing:

    <?php the_author_posts_link(); ?>

    What am i missing?

    I’m using that plugin as well and I’ve asked that same question here on the forum with no success. However, whether you’re using that sidebar plugin or not, I’m still having trouble getting a clear answer on how to replace WP code linking to the author in your custom theme to the profile page in Buddypress.

    In other words, how do I change <?php the_author_posts_link(); ?> from my custom home theme to <‘author’s buddypress profile link’> in order to reach that author’s profile page?

    Thx

    @M Any update on the Twitter plugin?

    This is an issue with your hosting provider. Contact them and ask them to set wildcard DNS for your account. This is required for WPMU using sub-domains. If they can’t or won’t, you’ll need to consider re-installing WPMU and using sub-directories (not preferred).

    @M Nice. I noticed as well in the tweet search widget (another great feature) I couldn’t get the search to exclude a term (eg. “PEI -Pei Wei”). Not sure if I have that styled right but it might be a small issue.

    @M Chat is pretty cool too. Only issue I see is not being able to drag it around in the screen, although it’s pretty neat to have the box follow you around the site. Nice work.

    @M Sweet! Works like a charm for me. The blog post also worked fine although I am seeing this code above the Twitter option in the blog post area:

    if (get_usermeta($user_ID,'twitter-tweet-posts') != 'on') return; if ( !function_exists( 'bp_blogs_install' ) ) return;

    Now if only we can get the posting option from the P2 theme post area as well! When can we try it out on our own?

    The first image is simply a shot of my homepage (P2) while logged in. You can see the post-form is now activated and the BP nav bar engaged with “My Account”, etc. showing.

    The second image is a modified version of the BP Member Theme.

    @M All of the BP settings are intact, however with registrations turned off and if you’re not logged in as a member they don’t appear in the BP nav bar. I have the BP components working nicely and if the plugin can be activated via the Setting panel I’m good to go.

    I have a modified member page working with my P2 theme. See:

    @M Sorry, I don;t have this configured, but you’ve pretty much hit on the head what I’ve been trying to do since integrating P2 with Buddypress. The best example I can find of how it might work is by somehow modding the Commentwitter plugin for use in the P2 postform versus its intended use with the WordPress comment form.

    This plugin enables an ajax input form to appear below the comment form where users can add their Twitter settings if they wish to cross-post. I’ve tried to mod this for the P2 post form unsuccessfully to date but it might offer some insight.

    Looking forward to helping any way I can if only testing.

    Thx

    Without knowing the details, it would be nice if you could somehow ‘pull’ the post form into a custom home theme in BP. This way users could seamlessly cross-post to Twitter from the home page using one form. I’m using P2 theme as my home theme so the need is obvious, but perhaps this could be possible somehow.

    Regardless, very happy to hear this is coming soon.

    Actually, no, the issue is there with the default bp-member theme as well. I’ve tried it with both the default and my own customization of the same. For whatever reason, all of the entries in my profile fields are hotlinked.

    See: http://blogpei.com/members/admin/

    Update: This issue was on my end. I’ve customized the bp-member theme and found part of the problem (new profile groups not showing up) but the entries in those fields continue to be hotlinked. When clicked, they all go to the member directory.

    Makes perfect sense…I’ll give that a whirl.

    I read those instructions, and i don’t see any special instructions for someone using a custom home theme in combination with the BP member theme (which I am doing). Unless I missed something, the additional instructions for custom themes assumes you are using both a custom theme for home and members.

    I’ve read that thread and have the same problem in that even though I’ve added the necessary files, I am forwarded to the wp-login page when I attempt to sign up via register.php.

    As I indicated in my first post, there appears to be a requirement to alter the functions.php file for your custom home theme (in my case P2), but I’m not sure how to do that exactly.

    I’m using trunk – r1324 and branch_2.7-r 1719 of WPMU.

    I’m aware of Twitme but that project has been underway for a while and to my knowledge has not been completed. Thanks for the pointer, however!

    Twitter Tools works fine in WP and WPMU for that matter, but users must add their Twitter settings on the WPMU backend. The whole idea of Buddypress is to have users manage their profiles from the Buddypress settings area. So the need is a plugin that enables you to change Twitter settings from the Buddypress profile area which enables your blog posts to reach your Twitter account.

    Regardless of how it’s done, the key is to ensure the user has access to the Twitter settings in the Buddypress profile area. Existing Twitter plugins are all managed on the WPMU backend which many of us are trying to avoid.

    @egerrits This is absolutely what is needed, especially for blog posts.

    Does anyone have this working? I installed, set my Twitter coordinates, but posts do not show up on Twitter.

    Cheers
