In reply to: Custom User Role Doesn't Have Sufficient Privileges
Try giving them the ‘bp_moderate’ capabilities.
It seems edit_profile checks to see if it’s your profile or whether
bp_current_user_can( 'bp_moderate' ) || current_user_can( 'edit_users' )
so adding the ‘edit_users’ cap should work.See bp_core_can_edit_settings() in bp-members-functions.php
It may not be a bug, but you could find out by submitting a bug
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/In reply to: [Resolved] Distorted AvatarIn that plugin, you need to replace
echo get_avatar( $current_user->ID, $sl_options['avatar_size'] );with this:
echo bp_core_fetch_avatar( array( 'item_id' => $current_user->ID, 'type' => 'full' ) );In reply to: Activity timeYes, it’s a bug that has resisted being definitely found since… a long time.
BP uses GMT to store timestamps and is supposed to apply a filter to factor in WP time settings, but in some installs it does not work.
You’re in the PST time zone?
Try pasting this in /plugins/bp-custom.php
https://gist.github.com/shanebp/5497723It doesn’t fix the bug, but it should counteract it.
You might need the global
global $activities_template;Try
echo $activities_template->activity->user_nicenameor
echo $activities_template->activity->user_loginbp_get_displayed_user_username()will fetch the name but won’t display it.So you can do this:
echo bp_get_displayed_user_username()Or use
bp_displayed_user_username()In reply to: Private Message Button in Member List LoopI’m not going to spoon-feed this to you.
But you’re on the right track.
( I should have said ‘ The clue is in your reply…’ )
You’ve found what is the same in those two situations.
So what is different about them ?Sometimes it’s easier to start anew.
For example – instead of ‘how to I change this to do that’, start with ‘how do I do that’.Use echo to confirm the required variables.
Use var_dump to expose all the fields in objects.In reply to: Private Message Button in Member List Loop@henrywright-1
What’s different? The answer is in your reply “Thanks for that… ”@valuser
That usage makes sense and has been mentioned by others.
But it’s not a simple tweak.
And would require an admin screen so you could choose to show / not show the button in loops.
And etc. etc.
I’ll write an article in the next week or so on
PhiloPressIn reply to: Private Message Button in Member List LoopStart with the add_action and follow the function calls.
If you see a function that isn’t defined in the gist, then that function is in the codebase.
Find and study it.The add_action calls a function that calls bp_send_message_button() which creates the button.
Part of creating the button is creating the link.
The link can be filtered – so look for apply_filters in that context.In reply to: BP Block Member 0.5BuddyBlock is now available as a premium plugin on PhiloPress
In reply to: Get values from buddypress tablesDid you try the example here

Make sure you have `global $wpdb; ` in your function.In reply to: BuddyPress Broken>Some plugins doesnt show up on register page
BP 1.7 is not broken – Your install of BP 1.7 has problems.
The first steps to take to diagnose your problems are:
1. Deactivate every plugin except WordPress and BuddyPress
2. Switch to the WordPress 2012 theme
3. Go to Settings -> BuddyPress and review all your settings
Your problems are probably due to conflicts between BP and your theme or other plugins.
In reply to: 1.7 BP_Group_Extension display not working anymore?Try a simple echo in your display function.
If you think it is a 1.7 bug, submit a report on trac:

You can contact me thru the info in my profile here.In reply to: inability to post to jobs boardYou could post to this or some other forum with a note asking a moderator to move it to the jobs forum.
In reply to: Member specified timezoneThat would require a custom plugin that stores the value per member and filters all output that has a timestamp.
bp_is_user_profile

So do the migration again – before you get more data into the live version.
If you have a large install, the script in that link can time-out depending on the resources available on your live server.
Bingo re elephant.
While it’s easy to change by editing the register template, the why-is-it-there question seems worthy of a trac ticket.
Regardless of what it refers to, why would
“This field can be seen by: etc. ” under each Base field on the register page
and a ‘change’ link be visible on a register page to a non-logged-in visitor?That’s what I meant by it failing the bp_current_user_can() check.
>is there something I should have done differently
Nope. That’s what you have to do.
This tool can be useful – also handles serialized data
Do you see “This field can be seen by: etc. ” under each Base field on the register page?
And a ‘change’ link?Per the image above ?
I believe you’ve found a bug.
The Base group allows an admin to set default visibility levels.
I was going to suggest you set each field to “logged-in users” and allow users to change their visibility.But those settings are not honored on the register form.
You can submit a bug here.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/
Log in with the same user / pw you use for these forums.Also – do you also see “This field can be seen by: etc. ” under each Base field on the register page?
And a ‘change’ link?There is a check in register.php, but it apparently fails by returning true for logged out users.
`if ( bp_current_user_can( ‘bp_xprofile_change_field_visibility’ ) ) `
Like this image taken while logged out on a vanilla install of WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7, 2012 theme
