What theme are you using? Sometimes there are wiggly issues that just need to be massaged.
Now .. I have WP+BP so I don’t know if this is relevant … but I am using a theme called Citizen Kane and I think its great.
Figured it out … duh!
Here’s an oddity related to the above … one of the groups is still disconnected from the forum … do you have an idea on how I can re-connect it? or should i just delete the group and restart it?
@Paul Gibbs Crazy as I, I see! I do not see an opportunity to “re-run the forum setup in wp-admin” nor a place to “pick existing install.” If I activate bbPress Forums my site crashes and I get this error “Fatal error: Class ‘BB_Query’ not found in /home/lockednd/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums.php on line 354”
NEVERMIND! hahaha I followed your guidance, held my breath while I let the site be crashed for a bit, clicked “Forum Setup” and selected “existing install.” and everything came back to normal.
For now. Thank you!
@Djsteve Did we jump off the happy truck today? My site is using WP+WPMultiSite+BuddyPress and a dozen or so plugins and, personally, everything seems to be running rather smoothly. Yes, there are a few disconnected pieces here and there – but I have PAID for scripts and plugins that ended up having as many problems if not more.
And yes, user management and no connection to Akismet or an ability to put CAPTCHA into the signup form seems like an obvious gaffe but …
I wish users would remember to check spam/junk folders but that’s a people issue outside of our control.
I am fairly certain that Akismet will be connected in v1.3.
@mateko No. At this time it is NOT possible to resend activation emails to BP members and nor can admins manually activate members from the console.
I have not tried it yet, but you may try deleting a member from admin and telling them to re-register and watch the junk folder.
Hopefully these issues will be addressed in v1.3@mercime … Converted my site to MultiSite on Thursday and installed the recommended plugin. No change. My guess is that this plugin work ONLY for multisite blogs that have been created, not overall users. I see this message when I click the link for the plugin “No user activation keys in $wpdb->signups.”
Sooooo … went through the process of making a multisite. Seemed to go smoothly … only the SuperAdmin panel has not made an appearance. If someone here has multisite experience I would love to call you for a consultation. I could give you access but its an adult fetish site that may offend a few folks soooo..
@hnla Ahhh yes. Will keep in mind … didn’t realize there was a distinction when on the BP homepage one of the specific features mentioned says “Even allow each of your users to start their own full powered WordPress blog.” It doesn’t say anything about Multi-site, so I thought this was a feature of BP. Maybe there needs to be some clarification on that feature description to avoid confusing folks.
Now, due to a problem with a photogallery, I had to change everyone from “Member” to Contributor which then allows members to post on on the site – just not on “their own full powered WordPress blog.” This may suffice for now.
@mercime I was aware of the difference between a real and a wildcard/virtual subdomain but not having had to create the wildcard functionality didn’t have a clue on how to implement. Suffice it to say I went to my hosting guys and got “Oh that’s easy. We’ll take care of that for you.” I’m about to dive in to the remaining instructions.
Thanks to all of you for your input and guidance!
Easy Albums. bpPicture Album.
Here’s my problem right now. I have WP+BP-based site. I soft-launched to a select 100 or so friends. 75 started the process. Of those, a large-ish number did not get the activation email and did not complete the sign-up process.
The ONLY way I know this is from the few that reported they did not receive the activation email and have asked me to resend – which there is no way of accomplishing this simple task. AND counting the number of users in the admin panel USERS and comparing it to the BP Site Stats plugin that counts the active users.
Should not the Admin–>User area include some indication whether a user has been “activated” or not? AND give us the opportunity to “Re-Send Activation”? Seems like a logical management tool.
@mercime Thank You! I will look into it … right now its WP+BP not multi-site.
There are two plugins Sitewide Newsletters and BuddyPress Mass Messaging. They are blanket emails – meaning you can’t edit the send list. But, would be nice to add a function to either one of these integrated into the “User” list, sort the user list by type of user and use this as the broadcast list. Maybe something can be done with either of these to do what you want.
It doesn’t seem all that applicable to me or most BP users but certainly would add more depth to user interaction.
this is only if a User/Member knows to go to site.com/wp-admin or site.com/wp-login We need a simple button in admin under Users to “resend activation.”
I have a similar issue. I know activation emails are being sent. However, some of these emails get sent ot junk and the member doesn’t know to check. When I go to the “Users” section in the admin I see nothing that indicates non-replies as spam and certain no way to “activate” a member.
Is there a way to resend activation?
I have a problem where some are not being received – likely gone into junk folder – and the member needs a new activation setn. Is there a way for me to either re-send the activation email? or simply activate their membership from within the admin?
See. I feel like such an idiot. I’m stuck on the first two steps!
My instructions are:
Open up the httpd.conf file or the include file containing the VHOST entry for your web account.
Add this line:
ServerAlias *.example.comIn the DNS records on your server, add a wildcard subdomain that points to the main installation. It should look like:
A *.example.comFirstly, I can’t find the httpd.conf file they want me to edit. I do have the ability to add subdomains so I wonder if putting * in the cpanel field will suffice.
When I access the DNS records on the server I have two fields to fill out:
Name and Address.Am I correct in assuming Name = A *.razewv-tac.org and Address = http://www.razewv-tac.org?
Well, heck. When you read the home page of this site it makes it sound that user-blogs are part of the functionality not something that’s gonna take a semi-genius and the patience of a saint to get rolling. holy cow.
Thanks Marcos for the link, though.
