bp-help replied to the topic 1.9 top features – ideas in the forum Requests & Feedback 11 years ago
@ubernaut
At one point I was feeling some fire with development but I have to admit the fire smoldered and eventually died. I just don’t see any passion in this anymore! Everything 1.9 offered I have fixed months and months ago in my my own development server, so it is just a boring version release with nothing all that special plus it is a beta…[Read more] -
Asynaptic replied to the topic How to Contribute to BuddyPress if I'm not a programmer? in the forum Requests & Feedback 11 years ago
thanks @ubernaut +1
@modemlooper yes, I understand that but you’re missing the whole point… why has there been no prograss in 2 years? And yes, I do realize that it could be done as a plugin but again, that is missing the point! As it is, imho this mentality of functionality being in plugins vs. core has gone way too far.

bp-help replied to the topic A user asked for an activation key while registering to my site . in the forum Installing BuddyPress 11 years, 1 month ago
@ubernaut
If the server is the culprit for mistakenly taken a user to that page it really isn’t a BuddyPress issue, it is a server issue. -
bp-help replied to the topic A user asked for an activation key while registering to my site . in the forum Installing BuddyPress 11 years, 1 month ago
@ubernaut
No it is not supposed to happen but unfortunately it does. I believe it is more of a servers time handling of the activation email that causes this issue. I have seen this happen before and if the user just ignores the enter activation key and just logs in then they are successful. -

What WordPress and BuddyPress version do you use?
The reported users are listed in our DEV installations.

Yes @ubernaut, lets say most of the users will be using the system at the same time. What are the recommended requirements regarding the HD size + Memory for example.
What is the recommended OS from your and others’ experience?
Thanks a lot

bp-help replied to the topic BuddyPress won't install in the forum Installing BuddyPress 11 years, 3 months ago
@parmkals
As @ubernaut stated I would FTP BuddyPress because if you do not have access to the php.ini then you can not change it and it may hang when downloading and installing BP. If that is the case then just download BP to your hard drive extract it and FTP it to: your-site/wp-content/plugins on your server. You will need the credentials from…[Read more] -

Hi @mareksgregs and @ubernaut,
I’m the WangGuard developer.
Search the user in the database (wp_users). You need to find there.
You need to check wp-config.php, index.php, wp-content and if you use a cache, wp-content/cache
I think you have been hacked. Is impossible that a user don’t have and email and if you delete the users and 5 seconds…[Read more]

@ubernaut I tried that Wangguard plugin (thanks for introducing it to me by the way, it’s awesome) and when I scanned the user, it’s status came back as “Error – 101”
I don’t see how my site could be hacked though. Perhaps the problem is in one of my plugins. Unlikely though. All of my active plugins are legit and shouldn’t have spam bots in…[Read more]

@ubernaut Oh I forgot to mention, there isn’t an email associated with the account either.
I think that something in the files may be creating it over and over again. Would that be possible? -
dice2dice replied to the topic Advice on a Pluggin to stop Spam accounts registering please? in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 5 months ago
I have installed BP-Spamkiller though I haven’t made the community private. I’m still considering if that might be appropriate for me.
One issue I have is there is a link on my homepage to the ‘Spam-prevention’ page. I don’t think that should be there. Would this still work if I didn’t make that page public or I made…[Read more]

Asynaptic replied to the topic Idea: Stopping Spammers with Sandbox in the forum How-to & Troubleshooting 11 years, 5 months ago
@ubernaut the scenario you outline is possible. that I can agree with. but I don’t think any reasonable person would respond by ‘leave never to return the interesting but apparently broken site’ if they didn’t immediately see their friend on the site.
to clarify, the (new) member would be shown and included in the membership directory – if there…[Read more]

@ubernaut and others, re spam, I would appreciate hearing from the more experienced dev and web masters about the pros and cons of a private membership site.
By not allowing just anyone to become a member you automatically arrest spam. Of course, you also impede your growth because legitimate users can’t join.
One way to get around this is to…[Read more]

Thanks @ubernaut for keeping us updated. Most of my feeds are working now with the exception of one. It sounds like generally there’s alot of buggyness across wordpress with regards to feeds and with similar mime type error messages showing not only in Buddypress

@ubernaut I’m not sure how I could contribute to be honest as I don’t have the required level of development skills to really make any kind of meaningful contribution. Does Automattic not have some level of involvement in the development needs of Buddypress?
I could contribute financially to get a developer to assist with this specific problem if…[Read more]

sorry @ubernaut, I thought seeing the last reply without any solution was more than a year ago was a really bad sign. We’d only know someone’s working on it if we’re told and I do appreciate the work you guys do.
It is quite frustrating though as much as we know it’s open source software when it’s promoted so positively and then in real world use…[Read more]
