thanks again. @modemlooper
In register.php I have changed to “.
At the moment the validation appears to be happening as one can’t register without completing the field.
BUT
No validation NOTICE -Please complete this field- is being produced.
It is not on the form and not there when you examine the form in firebug.
So there appears just to be a small way to go. —-> Make the error notice appear
Any help greatly appreciated –In reply to: [Resolved] Show posts written by user on profileThere is (was) a plugin bp-posts-on-profile at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-posts-on-profile/ though it is very out of date and hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress and BuddyPress.
I have tried it out with bp 1.6 and wp 3.4.1 and with a host of other bp plugins in a multisite and also in a multi-network local test site.
As far as Multi-Site/Multi-Network it was unsatisfactory as it only drew in blog posts from the main blog.
It did not draw in posts from (say) a group blog.
However for anyone who authored a post on the Main Blog it dragged in that post and showed it on their profile under the tab Posts
Those more qualified might look at the code and see if it would take much to have it brought fully up to date and multi-site compatible.
However as all relevant details including of posts are included in the members activity tab it probably is not as vital as other plugin development ?
On that note is there any kind of group funding facility for plugin development. So that those who want but can’t could collectively fund those who can ? or would something like that ever work ?
In reply to: BP Registration Spam – againI have no idea how to attribute success (if any) to various methods employed.
In addition to the numerous plugins and captchas some sites have also added lines to the .htaccess file
Some have added (in addition to the various plugins).
The plugin Cookies-for-comments and the lines as suggested at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/
> using register instead of wp-sign-up`RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !^.*XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.*$`
`RewriteRule ^register – [F,L]`and also
`RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .register*
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !.*yoursite.com.* [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^$
RewriteRule (.*) http://lmgtfy.com/?q=spammer [R=301,L]`So the .htaccess file begins like this
`# BEGIN ANTISPAMBLOG REGISTRATION
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !^.*xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.*$
RewriteRule ^register – [F,L]RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .register*
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !.*yoursite.com.* [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^$
RewriteRule (.*) http://lmgtfy.com/?q=spammer [R=301,L]# END ANTISPAMBLOG REGISTRATION`
Frankly I have no idea how and whether any of this works. The best that can be said is that spam has been reduced considerably. Fingers crossed.

In reply to: BP Registration Spam – againTry testing this plugin https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/spam-destroyer/
So far so good. Worth a try.
In reply to: [Resolved] Buddy Press Plugin Custom ConfigurationThis MIGHT work.
Get the blog id of the blog you want buddypress to be on say for example the blog id is 2
Put
`define (‘BP_ROOT_BLOG’, 2);`in wp-config.php before /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
Buddypress will still be configured in wp-admin/network but should operate on blog 2.
You can then configure the main blog any which way you want with links to the ” community ” blog or whatever.
“You’ll find the template at bp-default” check
could be in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/activityor in your themes members folder as per mercime
cheers
In reply to: BuddyPress Multi Networkafaik with bp multi network users are shared over all subsites and see http://wpmututorials.com/news/new-features/multiple-buddypress-social-networks/

“Also be aware that in WP (and BP) there is only one set of users across the entire install.”In reply to: How to publish posts not on the homepageI am not far from being a noob – so take this with a grain a salt.
Would you try it with tags ?
One home page but only include posts with certain tags for each situation
For your landing page (for non logged users – tag -red) So its only a “landing page” for non-logged in users.
function xonlyinclude_tag($query) { if ( $query->is_home() && !is_user_logged_in()) { $query-> set('tag_slug__in',array('red')); } return $query; } add_filter('pre_get_posts','xonlyinclude_tag');For your logged in ordinary users (tag – green – normal posts)
function onlyinclude_tag($query) { if ( $query->is_home() && is_user_logged_in()) { $query-> set('tag_slug__in',array('green')); } return $query; } add_filter('pre_get_posts','onlyinclude_tag');put the 2 functions in your functions.php file
just a thought.

Good News.
In bp 1.6 Beta 2 in online setups the maps ARE now coming in. The only thing thats missing (i now think) is access to upm settings via the dashboard. For the time being these can be accessed via http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/network/admin.php?page=bp-upm-settings.
In reply to: Private profile fieldsIn 1.6 beta 2 https://buddypress.org/2012/07/buddypress-1-6-beta-2/ there is a facility to restrict visibility of profile fields to —-> Anyone, Logged In Users or My Friends.
In addition there is https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-profile-privacy/ for earlier versions of buddypress. This can restrict visibility of profile fields to —-> Everyone, My Friends, or Only Me
Thanks for giving it a go.
Haven’t the ability to offer anything constructive. Just encouragement to continue if you get the time.

SOME privacy issues have been addressed. But not to the extent of being able to (out of the box) hiding members profile, groups, pages from visitors.
Just, now, visibility of individual profile fields can be allowed to be toggled/or fixed by admin between

`` What do I replace this with ?
ditto
though i did manage to activate it on a local site and it is a gem. tidier icons. digg + pin interest. thanks
Also notification to update pages —> sharebuddy. but when you do that the page,at the moment, is entirely blank. no header or anything.
no complaints – just feedback for a great plugin.
In reply to: Hide/Delete Base Profile UsernameMany thanks for the tip. I presume adding the line to the functions.php of a child theme would have the same effect.
Crazily enough the plugin still works perfectly. Haven’t tried the linking to social networking bit yet. But otherwise all good. Separate words can be links with square brackets, and you can exclude fields altogether.
In reply to: Hide/Delete Base Profile Usernamefor #2 https://buddypress.org/community/groups/custom-profile-filters-for-buddypress/ MIGHT offer some relief.

In reply to: BuddyPress 1.6 Beta 1 is ready to testCan’t reproduce this online – so its something to do with my set-up
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.6 Beta 1 is ready to testok. this is happening with buddypress as the sole plugin active. (Single site install bp default theme admin user, non admin user – the behavior is as described above)
opened a ticket https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4320
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.6 Beta 1 is ready to testPresume this is the best place for feedback. if not let me know and i’ll do a separate topic.
Bp 1.6 Beta 1 and up to trunk 6154 and wp 3.4.1 local install
on a single site with bp default theme and on a multisite with child of bp default.
Changes to Profile fields visibility don’t seem to be sticking
Hobbies – not a required field Who can see this field ? Anyone (default)
Change Anyone to Logged in Users and Press Save Changes.
Green Box arrives on top of page —-> Changes Saved
But the changes are NOT saved. Everything stays the same !
Refresh page/Empty cache —> No help,
Same for non-admin user as for admin.
I have a good few plugins active and that possibly could be the cause.
Will disable these tomorrow to check.
In the meantime it would be great to have this confirmed or refuted.
In reply to: Chat Plugin RecommendationsCurrently unable to locate the developer of Buddypress BuddyChat through Google.
Please share this elusive developer’s link so that we also may enjoy the use of this super plugin!
In reply to: Cannot Post To Forums…Groups forums do work in bp multisite using bp-multi-network and a plugin like say Networks + .
You can post to a group forum from the main forum directory or you can go to a group and post a new topic in the group forum
But I’m afraid its way over my head as to how or as to how to fix for @coreymj78
