Adding a Blog

  • Inactive

I’ve just started with buddypress, and I’m having some difficulties with creating another blog on my site.

Under the “Site Admin” section, I go to “Blogs”

Where it says “Add Blog”, I enter my information and email and press “Add Blog”. Then I get an email saying my blog was created, it pops up in the list and everything looks swell.

However, when I go to the blog url, it shows an “Address Not Found” page.

I’m using the set up where it makes it

    blogname.sitename.com

    if that matters

If it does, how do I change it so that it’s

    sitename.com/blogname

    Thanks.

    1. Which version of WPMU are you running?

Should be the lastest version 2.8.6.

    2. Did you install WPMU as a directory or subdomain install?

    it’s the directory.

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory?

    It’s in the root.

    4. Did you upgraded from a previous version of WPMU? If so, from which version?

No, I installed it new, not an upgrade.

    5. Was WPMU functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress?

    Yes

    6. Which version of BuddyPress (BP) are you running?

    Newest 1.1.3.

    7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version?

    It wasn’t an upgrade

    8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated?

    No

    9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes?

I am using Avenue K9 Theme, but I am customizing it.

    10. Have you modified the core files in any way?

The only thing I changed was so that it would display Groups as Cells

    11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php?

    No

    12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in?

    Came with it built in.

    13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files.

    no errors

    14. Which company provides your hosting?

    HostPapa

Is anyone else having this problem? I’m sorry for the double post, but this is really bothering me.

I'm using the set up where it makes it
    blogname.sitename.com

    if that matters
If it does, how do I change it so that it's
    sitename.com/blogname

My money is on that; I don’t think Hostpapa supports wildcard subdomains.

AS A TEST, backup everything and delete all your WPMU/BP files and empty the database. Reinstall, but this time during WPMU installation, pick the style of install that’s “sitename.com/blogname” as opposed to the one with subdomains.

I’ll give that a go, thanks.

Okay, so if you’re using hostpapa you need to set it to:

    sitename.com/blogname

    Thanks for your help.

I just tested this out on another domain I have with hostpapa, and I was wondering, is there anyway that I can CHANGE it to:

    sitename.com/blogname?

or is the only solution to delete everything, and reinstall?

Glad you got it working. It’s possible to change, but not easy. Of course, ensuring you’ve backed up EVERYTHING:

In the Admin, go to the Site Admin -> Blogs page. For each blog, click the edit link. You’ll then want to update the fields to be consistent with the *new* location you want each blog (i.e. check Domain, Path, Siteurl, Home, Fileupload Url).

Then, there’s one line in the wordpress config file that tells WPMU to use subdomains instead of subdirectories. Change:

    define('VHOST', 'yes');

    to:

    define('VHOST', 'no');

    Worked perfectly!

    Thank you very much!

    I’m closing the topic.
