All posting fails

    Hi,

I’ve got an old buddypress site that hadn’t been upgraded since 1.51 and wpress 3.2

I upgraded to wp 3.51 and then upgraded to buddypress 1.71 and then 1.72.

The site had laid dormant with no work on it other than a couple of groups setup. Attempts post any content on the old groups or the new groups is completely random.

I’ve tried multiple times to post content. The first time it added the post, but didn’t show up until I refreshed the page. I then deleted the duplicate post, but it showed up again. Then I added a new post, trying 4 times in a row and failed. Refreshing the page a few minutes later showed the deleted post back and no new posts.

I’m using Dreamhost as an ISP. The group I was posting to was public, requiring that people register.

I am using the latest version of BulletProof Security – which says I’m using the following settings for the blog… Don’t know why else I’m having this problem.

    Security settings Current settings

    .htaccess ../.htaccess 644.
    wp-config.php ../wp-config.php 640.
    index.php ../index.php 644.
    wp-blog-header.php ../wp-blog-header.php 644.
    root folder ../ 755.
    wp-admin/ ../wp-admin 755.
    wp-includes/ ../wp-includes 755.
    wp-content/ ../wp-content 755.
    wp-content/bps-backup/ ../wp-content/bps-backup 755.

And just to make it a bit more strange. When I click on the RSS option, all the duplicate posts I mentioned above show up, but the posts the first duplicate posts, that still show up are all deleted, very likely due to my multiple attempts to delete them.

Oops. I forgot to mention that I’m using the buddypress Activity Plus as a plugin to post links, and multimedia. Its their latest version.

All other plugins were turned off but problem persists.

Will check with WPMU, the creators of Activity Plus as well on this, but just an additional note, no posts, or comments are working…

@energynet BuddyPress is not activated in your site. Have you tried changing to Twenty Twelve theme and activating BuddyPress?

Your timing is immaculate. ๐Ÿ™‚ I just spotted a help file saying that I needed to delete old bp files in the theme before upgrading to 1.70. So I’d turned it off and was looking at the theme, which is Weaver II. Also searched the Weaver site for issues and they all point back at BP. ๐Ÿ™

I memory is bad on this but I either upgraded to BP 1.71 first before changing to Weaver II, from an older theme called Elbee Elgee, or or visa versa, moved to Weaver and then upgraded from the older version of BP.

Either way, I didn’t have the old BP template pack installed, nor do I see any of files I was told to delete at this link in step 3: https://codex.buddypress.org/bp-17-upgrading-template-packed-themes/

    3. Delete the six (6) BP folders transferred to your themeโ€™s folder in server: /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration. If you have a header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php and/or a footer-buddypress.php file, delete those too via s/FTP or control panel.

My first action was to roll back the site a week. All the plugins were still current after putting the old database back other than the theme rolled back. Was just rebuilding the theme first before turning BP back on. which will be in a few more minutes…

Looks like your status updates are working and that you were successful in activating BP 1.7.2 in your site.

    Status update.

Talk about confusing… And that I am. I tried another browser and was able to see the missing posts. Firefox’s cache may have been acting up, even though I was continuously refreshing. Still don’t know what’s going on with that. I then tried to log in and add new content from Chrome, but it wouldn’t show the metadata login option. Finally found that there was an inactive metadata widget at the bottom of the widget admin page. I killed it and was thus able to finally log into the site from Chrome. Then I attempted to post a new event onto the events page, but once again, the link was not saved.

So I continue to be at a loss for why the first post seems to work but then additional posts all fail to take.
