Anything similar to s2member plugin without the problems?

can anyone recommend anything similar to the s2member plugin that isn’t full of bugs ?
since i installed this terrible plugin i’ve had nothing but problems with verification emails not going out, people unable to login even after being verified, sections of the site being “member protected” despite me not setting them as so and even something as simple as the welcome page after login just going to random posts!sorry if someone here designed it but from my experience of it, it’s truly awful and their help forum only backs up my feelings, it’s full of people having problems.
all i need is something to enable privacy on buddypress so only members can see activity and a way to protect certain posts for members only. has anyone used anything that works with buddypress?
sorry for the negative post but i’ve wasted almost 6 hours on this tonight.
