Badge Maker

    Or Button Maker…

It would be great to have a way for users to easily create buttons to link back to their profiles. These could then go on their other sites, email signatures, etc.

Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc all have this and it seems like an essential tool to help members promote their profile and the community.

There would need to be a place for admins to load some images…

    Thanks!

Guys, maybe I’m kickin’ a dead horse, but I REALLY think this is a big deal.

which of you buddypress developers wouldn’t want a social badge/icon that linked to your buddypress.org profile that you could put on other sites or even in email signatures? Total street cred.

There is a link right on the front page of your facebook profile to create a badge. LinkedIn, Posterous, Twitter…a big part of their growth has been BECAUSE of badges that give their members an easy way to virally market the sites.

I’m banging my head against the wall wondering why nobody thinks this is important but me.

And, compared to most of the plugins you guys develop, I think this one would be pretty easy!

If no one wants to build it for the community, then I’ll pay someone to do it for me. Any takers?

Don’t worry mate, I have requested the same thing to a silent developers crowd. There are a lot of other things in the build at the moment and I also think this is a very important step for the platform. Hopefully someone gets onto this soon, but hey, they’re doing it for free so we can’t rush anyone.

I had the same thought and found this topic while searching for an existing plugin. A badge that connects directly to a profile page would be awesome.

One more thought for any would-be developers…

The menu should probably be in the “profile” section of the profile page and say “create a badge” or “create a button”

You guys talking about something like I did over at Real Estate Agent Resume? You can see it on my or any of the profile pages….

Badge Example – this is a hard coded solution but I whipped it up in about an hour… let me know if anyone is interested in the code… It’s not perfect and ready to be included as a plugin yet, but I’d be more than happy to co-author a plugin with someone for it.. :)

    Cheers, Matthew

I don’t even think it has to be that complicated…just an image/icon that links back to that specific member’s profile page.

Preferably, the site admin could load in a few different icons and members could choose which to include on their other sites or email signatures.

@sarahgooding likes it too…that makes 7 of us so far!

Sounds like a great idea, and adds to the overall idea of building a social network. I think it’s important to include an address in a text field, with a copy to clipboard type button, to make it as easy as possible for users.

It’s not been made yet.. but it would be great if someone made it :) I think you should have a box on your profile page. I’ve made an example of how it could look an a profile page (the initial badge creation box like on facebook).

Colors are a bit bright, but it should give you an idea.. If you user clicks on “edit this badge” he should be able to choose which profile fields he who like to show.. I hope this helps :)

    Looks interesting so far.

1 feature request: Allow an option for a SIMPLE badge…a 64×64 or 128×128 logo (like a social-share badge) that simply links back to the member’s profile page.

Think like a bit “T” for twitter or “F” for facebook that you see everywhere.

I’m not going to give money to 2shared by participating in their silly quizzes before I can download your plugin to test. I agree with Bowe: use a better host.

    Thanks for getting into this!
