Beginner’s Problem

    @sebastianpierre

    Heya! I’m really looking forward to using BuddyPress for an upcoming project. However I am having trouble with one part. This is how I’ve installed BP.

    1. I’m using WordPress and creating my own theme (not child theme).
    2. I’ve installed the BP-plugin through the admin panel in WordPress.
    3. I’ve assigned the specific sites to register, activate etc.
    4. Problem

    My problem is that the pages don’t show anything. I mean literally they don’t find anything to show. I’ve been scouring the web for some guidance on how to fix BP with a custom theme but I’ve come up with one solution only. That was to put the bp-template-pack files in my root folder (where I up until now had no BP files) and that makes it work. It displays all the flows, the user page, the register and so on.

    But, however, I feel this is probably not how it’s supposed to work. As I can’t find any updated version of bp-template-pack, but one that is for BP 1.5 (and now it’s what, 2.3?)

    Can anyone please help me understand how this works. I can obviously get it working up until I’ve assigned all the pages. After that I can’t manage to get the information to display under the links. Do I need to enable some sort of theme compatibility in functions? Is there a new bp-template-pack?

    Sincerely, Sebastian

    @sebastianpierre BuddyPress is compatible with nearly all WordPress themes out of the box. I am assuming that you’re on the latest WordPress and BuddyPress verions. Change theme to either Twenty Fifteen or Twenty Fourteen, check if all the BP pages are showing up as expected. If it is, then double-check that you have the_title and the_content template tags in your custom theme’s page.php file.

    bp-template-pack files in my root folder

    Just to be clear, if you’re referring to this plugin https://github.com/boonebgorges/bp-template-pack then I suggest that you deactivate it and remove the folder/files you moved to your theme folder. If you’re referring to the bp-legacy files then I suggest that you resolve the issue of BP pages showing up in your theme first before doing any kind of customization.

    And just to add – if it was/is template pack plugin you were/are using could you give us a clue as to how you came to think it was needed i.e what led you to believe that you had to install it so we can see if there’s anything we can do to remove any misleading guides.
