Blue @ link lists incorrect name.

    WP 3.0 Single User & BP 1.2.5 (just noticed this now, not sure if it’s new or a remnant from 1.2.4.)

    I took this directly from a site of mine. It’s the text that appears when you click on the blue @username question mark button on a user profile: @dpasian is a unique identifier for wforrest that you can type into any message on this site. wforrest will be sent a notification and a link to your message any time you use it.

    Note the change in names. The first instance of the name is accurate, but the other instances of the name refer to another user in the community. This same name appears for all other users. Another copied eg.: @admin is a unique identifier for wforrest that you can type into any message on this site. wforrest will be sent a notification and a link to your message any time you use it.

    This appears to be a problem with my BP Usernames Only plugin.
    Looking into it.

    Thanks @r-a-y. Should have mentioned the plugins I was running: yours being one.

    is this issue from BP 1.2.5 or from your Plugin, Ray ?

    Many thanks,
    Erich

    This is an issue with my plugin and I’ve just fixed it!

    Hi Ray,

    is there a chance you update your Plugin to the next version-number, so that there will be a notification in the Dashboard in order to update the Plugin.
    That would be the easiest way for a user like myself to update that Plugin.

    Currently I do see version 0.56

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    The version number is at 0.57.
    Plugin checks are done every 12 hours (I believe).

    You can always do a manual overwrite.

    @r-a-y This is a bit of a mystery r-a-y!

    Just updated to 0.57 and it looks like the fix works for regular members.
    For some bizarre reason when I login as admin though the first profile I look at is correct with the correct identifier name but then everyone I look at after that is displaying the identifier as the same as the original one.

    Really bizarre.
    Could you try it and see if you get the same thing. It is only happening on my admin account from what i can tell so far.
    Thanks.

    I’m logged in as admin and I do not experience this issue.

    Can anyone else duplicate this?

    Oooh just noticed by the way when you are on a member’s profile page as admin it is their display name that is displayed in the admin options in the tool bar at the top of the page.
    Not sure if anyone has pointed this out before but thought you would want to know.
    Cheers r-a-y!

    @rossagrant

    @r-a-y yeah it’s no big deal. Only admin can see that so it’s not a worry. I’m still getting the wrong identifier when logged in as admin.
    It’s odd as sometimes it displays the correct one for someone but then keeps that username for the rest. I’ll deactivate other plugins and see what happens. Will keep you posted!

    @r-a-y Just to let you know that I am using the other bit of code you supplied to show ONLY usernames even on a profile page. Not sure if that plays a part. The identifiers are fine when I log in as a user but it’s just as admin when they are wrong.

    Can anyone else duplicate this?

    @rossagrant

    Participant

    @r-a-y sorry to bombard you with messages.

    To recreate this what I have to do is log in as another user and then go into the members directory. I click on a few members and click on the ? to view the identifier on a few profiles.
    I then log out.

    When I log back in as admin I can go to the members page and do the same as the above but the second mention of the identifier in the box after clicking on the ? displays the username of the person I was previously logged in as.

    Can you try to duplicate it?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Thanks for the extra info. Still can’t duplicate it though.

    I’ll sift through any plugins or code snippets I might be using on top and see if I can duplicate it.

    [EDIT]
    Looking into your current steps. Will report back.

    [EDIT #2]
    @rossagrant – Can’t duplicate this. Sorry! Are you using any caching plugins?

    @r-a-y
    Hahaha, GOT IT! It’s the BP Follow plugin. Only happens when it’s active and only when I’m logged in as admin. Do you have it active on your install?

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Yes I have the BP Follow plugin active and it’s working for me…

    @rossagrant

    Participant

    @r-a-y how very bizarre. It goes away when i deactivate BP Follow. Think it might only be happening on admin’s account as at the minute my site isn’t live and admin is the only user who is following people.

    None of the other members are following anyone, they are only being followed. Will test and report back.

    @rossagrant

    Participant

    @r-a-y AHA!!! If I stop following anyone then it remedies itself too. If I follow someone then the identifier displays the name of the last person I followed. Can you try it?

    @rossagrant

    Participant

    @r-a-y that is 100% the issue here. Just logged on as a regular user, followed someone and then the identifiers all reverted to that users name who I was following.

    @r-a-y

    Thanks for looking into this, @rossagrant.
    However, I’m still not able to duplicate this. I’ll try this on a fresh install of single WP in a few hours.

    I’m currently using a multisite install on WP 3.0.

    @rossagrant

    Participant

    @r-a-y Ahh right I’m using a single install WP 3.0 with BP 1.2.5 and the latest versions of BP follow and usernames only.
    Keep me posted but the scenario above is definately the cause. Not sure if it’s your’s or the BP follow plugin that needs changing though. Let me know how you get on and thanks again!

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    It’s probably my plugin.

    I’ve noticed some weird discrepancies when using the Usernames Only plugin between single WP and multisite as of late… something screwy is going on. Definitely worth looking into.

    @rossagrant

    @r-a-y Thanks so much! Your usernames plugin is absolutely integral to my site so if one has to go it can’t be yours! Would love to be able to use both so really do appreciate your work! Thanks again! :)

    Hi Ray,

    I have upgraded to version 0.57 but I still see the issue showing the name “admin” instead of the name of the user.
    I do NOT have the “BP Follower Plugin installed”.

    I see this issue when not being logged-in.
    When being logged-in, then this issue is not there.

    Using WP 3.0 (Multi-Site) and BP 1.2.4.1

    ++++++++++++

    @tsui
    is a unique identifier for admin that you can type into any message on this site. admin will be sent a notification and a link to your message any time you use it.

    @r-a-y

    Okay confirmed! Finally something to work with ;)

    Thanks Erich will look into it!

    [EDIT]
    v0.58 is out and hopefully addresses the unique identifier problem.
    It’s not perfect, but it’ll do for now. Only tested on a multisite install, so there might be bugs with single WP… (yes I know I should have tested it on single WP!).

    @rossagrant

    Participant

    @r-a-y Not sure what you did r-a-y but it’s done the trick. I can confirm it works on a WP single install and BP 1.2.5 with BP Followers enabled. The previous symptoms have gone away! Thanks again!
