BP 1.7+ and later – Theme Compatibility Plans

Pre bp 1.7 had adapted a theme (http://wordpress.org/themes/techozoic-fluid) to work perfectly on a local install as per top/tail template instructions of @mercime (i think.) with bp template pack active.

Not quite getting there with the arrangements re 1.7 – for instance No Sidebars on Buddpress pages

So have continued on with previous arrangements though using all latest versions – so far appears perfect.

    Query.

Eventually will Buddypress not cater for (abandon – bit strong?) these “template packed” arrangements?

You should drop template pack really.

Theme compatibility already provides for a custom bp version of page.php ‘buddypress.php’ in that you can specify named sidebars. BP 1.8 will increase the flexibility of theme compat templates further by allowing you to specify index pages with full markup, or templates called on certain actions/component views.

It’s all written up in the codex.

    Many Thanks, Hugo.

After rechecking I am now down to just no sidebar control over activity page and group forums page. (though will need a little css tinkering which is no big deal) .

My resource to date is just https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-compatibility/ and this forum.

    You say

Theme compatibility already provides for a custom bp version of page.php ‘buddypress.php’ in that you can specify named sidebars.

bit lost with that i’m afraid. It would be great if you could elaborate on that.

can’t elaborate as already written a fairly detailed page on the first round of theme compatibility so would be repeating myself for no good reason 🙂

Look under developers > theme (something) on the right menu list in the codex.

lol but do have a read of the two detailed ones written to help people work with theme compat.

If you want different side bars then use a sidebar plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-sidebars/

@valuser as hnla and modemlooper mentioned above, BP 1.7 theme compatibility is the way to go now. BP template pack served its purpose then but it’s time to move on 🙂
