bp-activity-oldestpage cookie

What exactly does the bp-activity-oldestpage cookie do? I can try of guess what it does from the name but I might be wrong and might not get the specifics.

And it might be useful to know what other cookies, if any, BuddyPress uses for users who aren’t registered or logged in.

On the default’s theme Activity page, rather than the list of activity being paginated, it has a “load more” button. The “bp-activity-oldestpage” cookie remembers what page of activity the “load more” is on.
