BuddyPress.org

I am somewhat new to Buddypress, but have built a handfull of WordPress sites. What I want to do is set up a private BP community that has a page with Register, Login, and Forgot Password interface on the logged out page. In other words, I don’t want the new users to be able to see any pages in the community at all until the register, get their password, and sign in, along the same lines as Facebook. Then when they logout, I don’t want any internal pages showing again, until they log back in. I tried just ticking the box in Settings –> General –> Membership – Anyone can register, but this shows them an internal page with the fields on it. I realize I will have to create a custom page to do all this, but my problem is, I don’t know PHP at all. I have tried many plugins, but they still seem overwhelming as to what I need to do. I’m sure there is a way to do this.

Could someone offer some advice, step by step for a relatively newbie trying to get this to work. I’d be grateful and give kudos on the site.
