BP & WP Multisite: When a blog ”Updates” a post – it RE-posts on Activity stream. Is this WAI?

    Hello.

On our network we’ve been encountering a curious little thing and we are not sure if it is intentional or not.

When one of our blogs writes a new post, of course the activity stream posts this as intended.

However, when ANY blog even updates a single letter in a post and hits “update” – the activity stream once again posts that

“USER wrote a new post POSTTITLE on the site BLOGNAME”

Surely this can’t be the intended functionality? I have not come across a way to disable this either. We don’t want people creating sites on our network taking advantage of this and modifying one small thing on their posts once a day and in essence spamming our activity stream.

Can anyone please confirm whether this is supposed to be happening or not? And whether we can do anything to stop it? Thank you!

The issue is known and has been fixed in trunk https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3746

    Oh awesome!

    Thanks for that link.

So does this mean that a future release of Buddypress will incorporate this fix? Or do we need to manually edit code? I want to make sure I am understanding this correctly :)

The fix is scheduled for release in BP 1.6 version.

You have the option to make the edit manually in your BP 1.5.4’s buddypress/bp-blogs/bp-blogs-functions.php file as seen here https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5562 if you know how to make that change. You’d have to make the change again if BP comes out with another version update before BP 1.6
