buddypress = Content Aggregator

    @idotter

    Hi there

    I’m wondering, if buddypress is also able to aggregate informations from other social networks like flickr, twitter, facebook, other blogs (wordpress, blogger …) delicious.com and so on.

    There are such concepts ( e.g. noserub.com) that aggreagte (almost) everything from everywhere thorugh RSS or APIs.

  • Another idea would be to release support for alternate services for paid supporters, then once you receive enough donations, release it in the wild.

    Thanks for taking the time to post some ideas about monetizing. I have been looking into all of those angles, except the documentation one is new, thank you.

    I am definitely going to do paid support with a forum, and probably going to sell a “pro pack” that is loaded with advanced features like remote submit (reddit, digg), ad support, rich media pack, theme pack, etc.

    The only site I have found that lets me get up and running quickly is wpplugins.com. I would rather do it all in house, but do not want to spend too much time dealing with all of the support software and payment solutions.

    If anyone knows of other sites like wpplugins.com, please lmk!

    @MrMaz, Can you look into my request above ?

    @MrMaz also advanced features like remote submit for gallery2 & 3 photos …

    Eventually I want to support hundreds of sites, the only constraint is time. I have added yours to my list of possible sites to support. Right now I am ranking requests based on Alexa rankings. I can guarantee that sites with a very small reach (like twitgoo with a tiny 0.031 reach) will be in some sort of pro pack.

    I am not sure what you mean by “remote submit for gallery2 & 3 photos”

    http://gallery.menalto.com (gallery 2 & 3) for people with selfhost photo sites.

    view their feeds… would be awesome!

    I’d buy the pro pack…

    Its not feasible to support a software package since rich media embedding relies on the URL as a key for which API to use. It would be possible to support a list of websites that use the software, but not all of them automatically.

    I mean gallery 2 is selfhosted with feeds ,so you can get the feeds or api .. but I’m more interested in ustream.tv ,twitgoo & twitpic !

    is there someone willing (and able) to help developing this … it doesn’t matter wich product but i’d like to see this functionality for buddypress …

    @mrmaz, concerning wpplugins.com, i think 10% is quite a reasonable cut considering that it will also give you added exposure.

    Interrested people could vote here for some better BP support http://github.com/dcramer/wp-lifestream

    Both Gallery2 integrations and Lifestream are, from experience of an user hosted on a clustered server, resource hogs. The existing Gallery2 integration plugin, WPG2, is according to what I know, an orphaned project. :(

    I have to disable WP-cron on Mondays and Tuesdays because LifeStream goes crazy and it also bugs me that its javascript is still in the header. I can’t even imagine what would happen if my site’s users, in a future BP community, were syndicating contents together.

    Of course, I respect the developer a lot and I understand that he cannot get everything done at once (and that it is likely the reason there has not been Lifestream 1.0 yet), I am just sharing my experience so nobody else gets “hurt” if they’re hosted with one of the companies that does not tolerate short-term high load peaks.

    Ok, is there a available plugins for this now?

    Are there any other people interested in this feature, so please vote here or contact me through email. I’m in desperate need of this function … and will have a look for a dev .

    There’s tweetstream, facestream & bplink in plugins that covers most needs.

    I was looking forward for lifestream.but those plugins cover it!

    @idotter

    What i need is simple aggregation (Tweetstream and Facestream provide addtitional functionality but afford some for endusers “complicated” authorization).

    Instead of this two-way-synchronisation i’d like to see support for delicious, google bookmarks, google reader, google docs, dropbox, wuala …

    @xspringe

    I’m a bit confused: what exactly is missing from the lifestream plugin that it is not suited for this purpose?

    idotter

    @idotter

    aggregated content should be on per user base …. that means every user should be able to insert its data in admin panel. his/her content should be shown in activitystream and on profilepage

    @schaeffer

    @idotter: Now that you’ve been thinking about this for 3 months, can you summarize what you are looking for? The plugin would allow users to have their social content (to be determined) to be pulled from outside feeds to their profile pages, which would be pulled into the home page potentially (perhaps).

    It would be interesting to ‘curate’ outside content in a BP blog network. I’m not sure I care whether this is a plugin into BP, or it’s being collected by a separate website like Noserub. Both could feed a niche focus site’s content.

    Depending on the size, automatic aggregation of multiple streams could be overwhelming. Community voting could drive the home page content or maybe there is a content DJ, which means there needs to be a self-hosted database of social content with admin/editing tools. Sweetcron did this as well and is open for development.

    As you mentioned NoseRub and Sweetcron … i’d like to have this functionality in Buddypress … ;-)
