BuddyPress in subdomain

    I would like to use BuddyPress as a private community/forum- not published on the internet, for registered users on a website I am setting up.

    Yes, Buddypress can be installed on a subdomain as a single WordPress install. The subdomain will be your siteurl and blogurl;

    You can change Settings > Privacy option so that one of the blogs – like your dev site – will not be indexed.
