buddypress not working with permalink

Installed buddypress:

BuddyPress is almost ready. You must update your permalink structure to something other than the default for it to work.

When setting the permalink settings other than default, my site will not work anymore. “404 error not found”
Please help guys! much appreciated

– mod_rewrite must be enabled https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/#system-server

– Before installing BuddyPress, you need to have your permalinks issue resolved first. https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting log in with same username and password used here.
