cannot edit header.php

  • Hi there, I’m doing a site for a client through BuddyPress. I decided to go the route of creating a child theme. I have created the theme successfully and only did a little bit of ediitng to the style.css file. Everything thus far was working fine and I am now ready to begin editing the header.php file. However when I copied the header.php file over to my new theme’s folder and attempted to edit it in the appearance editor I received this message-

“Sorry, that file cannot be edited.”

My first thought was to CHMod the permissions of the file to 777- this did nothing however and I still got the same error message. Is there something I’m missing here? Please help! My client is on my ass lol!

  • I’m wondering if it would just be easier to edit the header.php file from my computer rather than the Buddypress dashboard and reupload every time I make a change?

    It’s a known issue – https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16744

That’s the way to do it.

Thanks! I’m adapting as we speak lol
