cannot edit header.php

    Hi there, I’m doing a site for a client through BuddyPress. I decided to go the route of creating a child theme. I have created the theme successfully and only did a little bit of ediitng to the style.css file. Everything thus far was working fine and I am now ready to begin editing the header.php file. However when I copied the header.php file over to my new theme’s folder and attempted to edit it in the appearance editor I received this message-

    “Sorry, that file cannot be edited.”

    My first thought was to CHMod the permissions of the file to 777- this did nothing however and I still got the same error message. Is there something I’m missing here? Please help! My client is on my ass lol!

    I’m wondering if it would just be easier to edit the header.php file from my computer rather than the Buddypress dashboard and reupload every time I make a change?

    It’s a known issue – https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16744

    That’s the way to do it.
