Comment HTML tag Appearing in Activity Stream

    @mrjarbenne

    I’ve recently enabled the “Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts” functionality on a Multisite instance running WP 4.3 and BP 2.3.2.1. Because I’ve only recently enabled this, I’m unsure if this is a new occurrence with the recent updates, or if it’s always been there. At the end of comments that exceed the length of the Activity Stream excerpt the link to [Read More] isn’t a link anymore, but a portion of the HTML link appears, and the “#comment” text can be clicked to expand the text in the way that [Read More] should.

    I’m not sure if others are seeing this, if it’s worthy of a Trac ticket, or if it’s something exclusive to my install that I need to debug. Just looking to ascertain whether others are seeing the same thing?

    @mrjarbenne – Which theme are you using?
    Have you tried it with the 2014 or 2015 theme?

    Have you tried disabling all other plugins aside form bp to see if new comments create the same issue when those other plugins are disabled and you are using a default theme?

    I’m using 2014. Are you confirming that you are not seeing the same behaviour?

    No problem with read more button on comments…, as i have no excerpt when it’s a comment related to a post. I can enter a very long text and never get that button.

    When commenting any activity, except a post, i get read more.

    “I’m using 2014.” – I guess you also tried with other plugins disabled?

    Did you customiaze your theme files, or add a bp-custom file, or mu-plugins folder or anything.. might be time for a backup of your files and reinstall of 2014 or something ?

    I just switched my main site to 2015… wow, editing files for this thing is a nightmare.

    Thanks for the confirmation @danbp. Clearly I’ve got something odd conflicting somewhere. I’ll keep digging.

    Thanks for the suggestions @djsteveb

    @mrjarbenne,

    fyi, the read more thing is ajaxified and depending your server, and also many other little details, you may encounter some difficulties with a few miliseconds latency or some read more displaying correctly, and some other hanging. Heavily F5’ing while testing can also give stuning results…

    Issue you describe let me think there is a missing closing tag somewhere. May be a wrong js, a typo error, or a small conflict with id or class name… Devil is in details…
