@mikealan can you list all of the plugins you have installed?
Thanks for your reply.
As it is a completely new installation I have only BuddyPress installed. Even Askimet has not been activated.
BP only has a small detection for ssl to specify the correct path to files if your host has ssl enabled. If you type in the correct url for group creation instead of clicking the button does it create the group?
Thanks for your reply.
The correct URL still returns a 404 Page not found error.
Further details:
BP works ok on another 2 temporary sites on the same server
It also works ok on my home local host server.
It is just this 1 site that gives the problem, maybe I should try a complete reinstall including the database!
If the server isn’t the issue and you are using everything as it comes out of the box then yes you should give a fresh install a shot. Keep a back up of everything for reference.
Don’t use one click wp installers, they can cause errors with BP because one clicks sometimes do weird permissions.
@modemlooper & Henry, thanks for your help so far.
Ok . . . . . I have just done a fresh install of WP and BP in a sub domain and not in a separate folder as it was before. So the address is now ‘cyc.manorway.org.uk’ All the HTTPS’s have gone (there were a lot of them looking at the browser source code!).
The next problem: I can now get into the ‘Groups’ page but get ‘Page not found’ when clicking on ‘Add new’ (group).
Any thoughts please. I have done a quick search but cannot find any useful answer.
Thank you.
Just to add to my message above, there are no other Plugins installed. I have also uninstalled BP including db entries and reinstalled but to no avail.
Switch to bp-default theme and then check the link. Might be theme related.
I have tried 2012, 2013 & the BP default theme. They all report ‘Page not found’.
