Documentation for Customizing BP Theme?

Hi all,

I installed WordPress and Buddypress plugin without problem, went over to the documentation and followed the instructions to customize the default theme. That was easy but it doesn’t explain how to actually *start* customizing. Is there a documentation explaining exactly what CSS must be included in order to have a custom BP installation?

I was expecting the documentation to point out areas, buttons, etc of the site and how it corresponds to the CSS. I just have an empty styles.css page with just the temple header info.

Would appreciate any help, thank you.

There’s no available documentation in the BP codex at this time. Big assistance in theme styling is Firefox add-on Firebug https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firebug/

Wow thanks that looks like a neat add-on.

As far as the coding goes, am I supposed to start from scratch or copy over all the files from the plugin / bp-default directory?

It’s quite a shame that the documentation is lacking considering Buddypress looks very powerful from the example sites I’ve researched.

Depends on what modifications you’d like to implement and how you want to go about it.

Create a child theme of bp-default – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ – you can import the bp-default default.css in your style.css and make the revisions as well as copy over one or more template files/s from bp-default theme if needed

or use a WP Theme and install the BP Template Pack plugin and go through the process
