Don’t know if I should be creating a default child theme with an already integrated wp-bp site

  • I am using a word press template and have already integrated buddy press to match the template on the rest of the site.

However, in order to change some things, a moderator suggested I create a child theme of the BP-default. I read over the instructions linked to at http://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ but felt concerned because it sounds like I’m creating a brand new theme based on the default instead of just changing my integrated buddypress theme that already has all the features of the wp template. I am fearful the child theme process would basically require me to recreate the wp template from scratch on buddypress which needless to say I could not do.

What I’m ultimately trying to do is access the forums/index.php in order to remove line 35-36 and take out the Tags(comma separated) box on the forums page. I was told to create a child theme to do this but Is there some other way I can access this .php file and make such changes?

  • FYI, I figured out where to go to access this file without creating a child theme.

You most probably did not post that you were using WP theme with BP Template Pack. Otherwise the moderator would instruct you to change information in the forums/index.php file transferred to your active WP theme during the BP template pack compatibility process.
