duplicate bp-groups – external plugin

If I wanted to make bp-groups an external plugin and change the name to, say: schools, but at the same time, still be able to use the build in bp-groups.

Would it simply be a matter of changing all entries of ‘group’ or related to ‘school’, to avoid conflict and making it into a plugin?

I’m just getting into php and things, reading wpbible/wp plugin development/buddypress for dummies.. like 5 more books

The thought just poped into my head and was wondering what it would entail and the difficulty level.

Why make it a plugin? To change /groups to /schools read this https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

I want to have 2 groups:

1 being the origional groups (eg: schools, simply changing the labels and so on)

2 being a modified one (eg: student groups)

If I just made a copy(now having two bp-groups), and changed both of their labels and so on, surely they would conflict?
