I trust this is a custom theme you’re using? If it is a custom theme then switch to twentytwelve theme and see if issue still persists if not this shows you it’s a theme issue and you need to contact the theme author in the first instance for support.
Hey Hugo thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. You are correct, it is a custom theme and I am almost 100% certain the custom theme is having a conflict with BuddyPress. The site is a live site so I would rather not switch the theme, but I am sure switching to twentytwelve would solve the problem.
I wasn’t sure if duplicated content was a known issue when using custom themes or if anyone had experienced a similar problem. I wasn’t sure if there was an easy code fix or not.

@alexharvey52 always better to create a new topic for your own. WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? Where is duplicate content showing up? In all BP pages or in one component only? Have you done basic troubleshooting like changing to Twenty Twelve theme? Or deactivating plugins batch by batch except BuddyPress to check what is causing issue in your installation?
