Editing the activity stream

This is probably a really easy thing to do but I’m still a total newcomer to all this and just can’t work it out. Basically all I want to do is change the wording of some of the things in the Activity Stream. For instance, “wrote a new blog post” to something like “added a new entry”. If someone could provide idiot proof instructions (I’ve searched for days and I’ve not been able to do it) then it would be very much appreciated!

Thanks Mercime. I’d already tried both of those methods and I’ve continued to try as many different variations as I possibly can and still no luck. I’ve done everything they’ve said. Created .po and .mo files (buddypress-en_US) with the relevant changes and added them to languages in /wp-content/languages/. I’ve also tried adding them to the bp-languages folder. Nothing.

Nothing happens when I add the first method code into my functions.php file.

It’s driving me insane to think that the one thing that has completely stumped me in the website building process has been the changing of two words. If anyone has any other suggestions or any tips as to where I could be going wrong it would be very, very much appreciated.

There’s not really a pretty way to do this. If you look in bp-blogs.php you can change the string it passes to the activity. Changing the string doesn’t affect existing activity, but it can alter new ones as they’re entered into the system.

I’m using an older version of Buddypress though, so I can’t guarantee things will be the same for you. The string you mentioned (‘%s wrote a new blog post: %s’) shows up on line 411 for me.

    Hope this helps.
