Email notification failure for new users and resets

  • Hey. I’ve tried to read through the forums here, on WP and over at bbpress. Having a hard time nailing this down.

    First off, I do not know php. I am a traditional html/css guy, who decided to try WP. I have installed on my site: WP, buddypress and bbpress. All latest versions. the site is occupykc.net, and the issue I’m hacing is that when new users sign up, they are told they will receive a verification email, but they do not. Also, during the signup it actually says at the bottom of the page `{“error”:[“Invalid domain (www.occupykc.net) for this app”]}`. I assume this is a setting or integration issue. If it’s relevant, google apps / mail are also assigned to this domain.

    I’ve seen many mail plugins but am unsure what to set the defaults to, and mail from plugin is many years old. Any suggestions or help, please. I will also have to figure out how to ‘activate’ the members already signed up who haven’t received emails. Thank you

  • To make it simpler, I am now pretty certain my problem is simply mail related. But I am not sure where to address it. Google Apps? WP / BP / bbP plugin or php?

    Thanks for any advice cats.

    @aces

    I would install https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ and see what debugging information it provides when sending a test email

    Then google for the errors….

    @aces I’m sorry, I’m not a coder. I installed the plugin, but what do you mean see the debugging info? Should I switch to use php instead of wp, or is there some other setting you are speaking of? As I said in the posting, I was thinking google apps mail settings on the dns might be the problem.

    I see. I sent a test email, and it said `SMTP server error: Temporary local problem – please try later` so I will try the php mail option and see what its test says. By the way, I am on justhost, and my dns is an addon associated.

    I believe this is resolved. It was google apps after all. I didn’t realize the MX records on the new hosting server hadn’t been changed. Thanks for the thoughts.
