Events?

BuddyPress is perfect for local groups who have meetups. Is anyone thinking about adding events functionality?

I totally agree with you Todd. I thought copying the bp-wire and modifing it, but, the most common practice, is to have a DATE, TITLE, a PICTURE and a TEXT, to describe the event… And then a WIDGET of course showing all events on the main page (to start).

    i´m thinking about it.

Yup! Me to. Buddypress is brilliant and I am currently using it for my local Scout group! Bang on works perfectly and events would just round that off. For the mean time however i’ll be using groups for events

Looking at the road map, I would say it’s not in the cards for the 1.0 release. This is just us BP users saying it would be “nice to have” – I’m not aware of any interest in this from the core developers.

I think the Groups component could be easily hacked and duplicated to provides events functionality. I’ll likely wait for BP to incorporate them as they aren’t a key component of my site, but I don’t think it’d be more complicated than adding some additional fields. There’s also some WP plugins that may provide the functionality you’re looking for as well.

There are alot of event type plugins for wp. Try Event Calendar 3 It has a ton of lovely features but I couldn’t use it ’cause it doesn’t have repeating events. I looked at alot of that type of plugin but settled on a google calendar plugin. Google makes a nice intuitive calendar UI but it doesn’t integrate with the blog. Posts are not related to calendar events. wpng-calendar

I would agree this is very important. Both facebook and meetup have the ability to create events, invite people, rsvp, and send messages to attendees. Lacking this feature would be the only thing holding me up from a full fledged rollout of buddypress.

Yes “jbzz”, the ability to create events, invite people, rsvp, and send messages to attendees would be really great. Really nice fonctions for buddypress groups. I will use them as soon as they are available, for sure!! ;-)

I wont start a new thread for this but just add my needs for this type of functionality.

    – Needs to be per group, just like a forum, and not per blog

    – Should allow wire posts at the least – adding photos and other types of information would be great though

    – Should allow for repeating events

    – Should have member lists (preferably with status)

These are the needs I can think of right now.

The calendar/event plugins I have looked at don’t have any bp (or even mu?) functionality and all assume that you’re going to use them on your blog so they’re not of any use.

@nicola: I’m not sure I understood your reply. Are you working on this or are you awaiting a release from someone else?

I’m waiting the BuddyPress final release before starting

This Calendar/Event functionality would be great! The Event Calendar 3 plugin does work fairly well for single WP installs but I’ve been hoping for something cleaner for some time. I hope the BuddyPress Event Calendar can do the trick!

Just thought I’d show interest in an events module/addition to groups too. :)

As already mentioned being able to create an event with info, invite members and allow an RSVP would be brilliant. Just throwing in a few more thoughts:

    – Allowing users to click say “I’m attending”/”I might attend”/”I’m not attending” buttons and their status showing on the events would be great.

    – Have an “invited but not replied” status.

    – Have maybe public/private events. Public events allow anyone (in that group?) to sign up/invite others, private events don’t.

As I say – just a few thoughts… Such a module/extension of groups would be amazing.

I know that Ashley Shaw is working on this for a South African political party, I intend to help him out once I’ve finished another less complicated plugin I am working on now.

The “events” plugin would be another major milestone in BP developments. Please use us for testing, etc.

ib0189 suggestions are great if they could be considered.

I am developing an Events component. It has basic functionality right now, such as inviting friends, wire and forum attached, some widgets (popular, recent, upcoming and active views, as well as list/calendar view) and will work with upcoming Albums component when released for attendees to upload pictures.

I will let you know when you folks can download it (this week) to play around with and test.

In the mean time, I’d like to build a list of what you folks would like it to do, in addition to the features already mentioned on this thread.

Also, what back-end options would be nice, such as auto inclusion of birthdays on the calendar, set up basic categories, allow users to add categories, etc.

I am interested in an “events-calendar” per BP-group.

people should be able to say “I will join this event” and “I may join this event”. Then you can see a list of people who will join this event or might join this event.

It should alos be possible to invite users to this event..

also, integration into the photo-album (which will be released by BuddyPress later this year) would give this a great tool.

also, it should be possible to attach a .pdf-file or an image or a link to post details of the event.

Would like to see a plug-in for this which is also officially approved by the official developers like Andy.

Please let me know if and when anything like this will become available.

I am ready to pay $$$ if it´s working properly…..

    Thanks,

    Erich

I am looking for very basic functionality. Since there are other larger communities that relate to the one I want to create, I would like to aggregate the events they organize in a prominent location on my buddypress install. Can anyone suggest a way to do this?

Basically I need a way for me or other users to be able to submit an event with name, date, location and other details. A way to add events through RSS would also be great
